Another hillside story

Oldest son was going to load square bales on his gooseneck trailer after he did some baling.
Unhooked the trailer and was leaving the field to get the loader tractor with bale grabber.
Saw the trailer start down the hill which was not very steep sliding on the front jack stands.
Rushed over and got his nice 1 ton dually Chevy diesel in front of it and the tailgate has a nice dent in it now.

Did square bales 1 year and could not run picker on the side hill. most bales rolled to the bottom of the hill but the ones that didn't my children went along and gave them a start and down they went.

Could have you stopped it by pulling the brake away cable?

When I pull my 10k dump up a small hill with Farmall, I have one hand on the brake away cable after one time running out of gas on the hill. All the gas ran to the end of gas tank. That was scary. Not enough brakes on Farmall. I had to do a good job of backing up to keep trailer from bending hitch.

Heard a story a while back about a guy who was traveling through the Palouse country in Eastern Washington. He encountered an angry farmer staning in the road cussing. The traveler asked him what was wrong. The farmer said it was the third time today he had fallen out of his field!

Anything running away from you is not good. Another reason to be seated on your tractor seat when starting.

cutting beans the fall of 09, one of the wettest falls I can remember. I was cutting bean with the old 7720 since it is 4x4 and was cutting around a hill when it stated to slide so I turned up hill and then slid down backwards. It was no till so I did not really dig in just slid on the greasy fodder. My buddy was cutting the other end of the field with the 9600 and duals and he cut the hill and never even left a track.

How about seat belt?
I had a tractor almost flip over, it spit me off the seat.
Lesson learned, I now use the seat belt.

That's my tractor all right. Several years back I was mowing, my tractor motor shut off. The mower dropped to the ground holding the tractor from rolling. The problem was the fuel shutoff valve had a broken wire causing the motor to stop. I fixed the wire. To see if it would start, I stood beside the tractor. It started right up. The mower raised up, and off the tractor went down the hill. All I had time to do is shut off the motor. The mower slowly lowered, buy the time it got to the edge, the tractor steered to the only ditch on the bank. The mower caught in the ditch, and held it from going further down. I had to get my AC model M crawler to pull it back up. You can't imagine the feeling to stand and watching your best tractor heading to certain destruction. I should have put the transmission in park, and not neutral. I just got in a hurry. Stan
