Came up in the garden. I want to get it taken care of before it causes
agony. If its a weed.

I have those in my garden. What a pain! I read where the seeds can lay dormant up to 50 years. Disturbing the soil really make some come to life.
 
Let the flower open and you will see it is part of the Okra; Cotton; Hibiscus flower; family.
But be quick about it or you will see why this plant is called flower of the hour.
Let the flower get pollinated and produce seed and your grand kids will still be dealing with this weed.
 
High school ag teacher said that a weed is any plant growing where you dont want it to grow. So one student asked if a tree growing in a field is a weed, then the argument started.
 
That's what my pesticide applicators manual says, a weed is any plant growing where you don't want it to. Corn is a weed in a soybean field.
