Going rate for cutting wheat?

So I have an old F2 Gleaner and sometimes a neighbor has me cut his wheat or shell his corn. Just wondering what I should charge per acre? In the past we traded harvest work for concrete work. But now I don't need any more concrete work and he is about done doing that as well.

Around here a custom cutter would get at least 35 dollars per acre for wheat or oats. Im in the Finger Lakes region of New York State.

Geez, I remember doing it with a pull type for six. I thought I had fallen in to a pot of gold when a guy paid me $100 to go over 20 miles one way to cut 8 acres of wheat.

Your state extension service might have a survey of custom rates in your area.

Figure extra for travel time and small, weedy, or difficult fields.

A few years back I paid $25 and acre for soybeans. Around here I would think that would still get small grains done, maybe $30/acre on corn. I was getting $20 for soybeans and $25 for corn 25 years ago.

Those Deere combines are so gentle on the crop that the grasshoppers in the grain tank are still alive after going all the way thru---Tee

Reading this article to my dad, he comments he was charging $6 an acre from late 1940s thru the early 1960s in Washington county, oregon for standing small grains. Started out with pull behind all crop 60 with power unit, then McCormick 125 SPV, Massey harris 27.
Also in that time range, crops increased from 30 bu per acre to over 100 bu per acre.

I know you can't use this as an advice because of my location so it's just a comment. Over here I would have to pay at least $50 depending on unload conditions. That is why I stick to my own old 1971 10' combine. I guess it is what they need to charge to be able to pay for that big fancy machinery they run.
