second cutting is done

The weatherman finally gave us a week with no rain. Lots of hay was cut and baled, some second and much first, too. The big farms chop their haylage
and their third cutting is done. I had my first all baled by mid June, but the rain started for most of July on a regular basis. Don't have but 1
beef cow and her calf, and I work by myself, so no sense in making haylage.
I lined up the machinery I used this year, like I have done many times in past years. Interesting to see which tractors were paired with which
implement. My 826 hydro is normally on the baler, but it developed a PTO problem.

I have had the 3010 since 1977. Old reliable.

Bill. I'm jealous, we ain't cut hay yet. Lots of folks have over the last few days. Depending on where you were, some got rained on. We had a paying job and didn't have time. Next week is another fence job...... maybe the week after. Great line up!!

Still first cutting out around here. I've been trying to get wheat finished but Tuesday I could barely get enough through (due to being tough) the combine to take a sample to the elevator. 18.5 percent moisture. Finally was able to get rolling Thursday so now I have enough to load a semi. Wanted to cut wheat again today but the soybeans desperately needed spraying in one field as wet ground conditions interfered until today. I keep saying next year will be better but now I will just keep my mouth shut. The state of NY was nice enough to outlaw dicamba use after July 1 so another wrinkle in this year. 2-4D beans for next year I guess. When I try to count on pre-emerge chemicals the time to apply gets fouled up one way or another. Time to check my Powerball numbers.

I should have cut my second cutting when we cut wheat. Was a good week for it. I was more concerned with not having sprouted wheat so got it done instead. Looking back Probably should have worried more about the hay. wheat was terrible this year. I think they damaged the yield when they burned it spraying last spring. It looked like they burned it off to plant. Weather didn't help either as it got cold right after they sprayed it for about 10 days. I do now have about half of my second cutting in the barn now though.
