OK don't laugh Kubota man got coned into looking at his neighbors JD 430. This thing is old but started out with the fuel control solenoid burning up. I ordered him a new one and installed it. When you crank the tractor it will run as long as the key was in the START position. OK if this was a hold in coil on the new solenoid was bad. But this is all external and easy enough to just remove the solenoid and tie the run lever back. Doing this the engine still does the very same thing only runs with the starter helping. So next I suspect the electric fuel pump.... full flow if anything too much at the injection pump entry fitting. Next I removed the return and it has as strong flow, also removed the small line from the end of the injector drip line. No change. Pulled the side plate and the slide rail in the pump moves free. Is there and internal spring between the fuel rail and the governor that is killing this engine. About to the end on what to check next. Does anyone know if there is an internal screen in the injector pump/

You might want to check the temperature sensor. Deere has it tied in on some models. Just unplug it and see if it runs then.

Thanks I am pulling at straws , in my opinion I have all the electrical out of the loop. It is something that when the starter quits helping turn the engine it stops right then. Thing is it sounds normal and runs strong as long as the starter is helping. I am thinking something between the governor and the fuel pump but cannot find any parts breakdown that shows those parts.

My old 59 Ford pickup did that once, as long as you held the key in the start position it would run. With a
little research in the internet I was able to determine that it was the resistor that was mounted on the
firewall. This after I wasted money on a new ignition switch.

Any chance the diesel fuel has been diluted by gasoline?

I recently worked on a Ford/Shibaura with a similar "cambox pump" that had some issues with running, the fuel looked and smelled like dyed diesel, I finally noticed lots of vapor rising from the tank filler opening, I drained it and refilled it with fresh #2 diesel and it ran perfectly.

Apparently just enough gas had been accidently added to make it more volatile, but yet not enough to make it look and smell like something other than diesel fuel.

Try holding the switch to start and unplugging the small wire on the starter solenoid when it starts.

That will take the starter out of circuit and keep the switch in the start position.

Just a test to see if it's electrical, or depending on the starter to keep it going.

Yes has the black box controller, BUT I have by passed it . Have the solenoid off and the run lever tied in run. To my thinking I have all the electrical out of the circuit. I still think there is a spring broke between the governor and the rack but why did it just happen when this solenoid went out. MOST diesels will run with no electrical until you get up in the late model stuff. This thing is 40+ years old , still think I am missing something simple. No heating required you can go up there right now and hit the key and it will start and run (wherever you have the throttle set) but the minute the starter quits helping it dies instantly. ...
