Ordering new control for old pump

I can't find out what the GPM is on the gear pump on my loader and need to order a new control. The control should be about 25% higher GPM flow than the pump. My question is, Is a 11 GPM pump big enough to run a five foot wide bucket? This is on a 57 Case 400. All the work hoses on it are half inch. I called Prince up and told them the cast numbers that were on this bigger one I've been using but they said they needed stamped numbers. Can't decide whether to order a 14 GPM control or a 25. The 25 would be for the 21 GPM and the 14 for the 11. I have two old pumps that used to run the loader, that are half the weight of the one thats on there now. Thanks

11GPM is more then enough if you have the PSI. GPM gives you the speed at which things move not what they will do. One doesn't want a real high GPM or one can end up with a lap full of rock and end up DEAD. I knew of a guy who replaced his old 8GPM pump with a 20GPM pump and was loading some creek rock. They found him in the creek covered with rock dead due to the fact the loader came up fast and the rock came out on top of him.

Here's a couple of pump displacement calculators (but I don't suppose you want to take the pump apart to accurately measure internal parts).

Thanks for the great info. I'm guessing that this newer pump I have been using is a 21 gpm because the middle section is twice as thick as the one it replaced. Both operated the loader fine, and about the same speed. So now I'm wondering if the control I just took out has been restricting the flow. Which might mean that putting a 25 GPM control on with the 21 GPM pump (assuming thats what it is) could cause an overacting FEL. But if it's too fast, I can replace the pump with a slower one (Prince makes a 14 GPM with a maximum 4000 PSI ) The control would be as accurate but I could extend the levers to make it easier

Old, that is true. I sure do need the accuracy sometimes. I'm going with the 11 gpm pump with the 14 gpm control. Thanks a bunch. Ill sell the 21 gpm pump.

I understand this type of thing well but then again I have 1.9 plus million driving miles plus I was a heavy equipment operator and have run many machines and on many an inch up or down had a lot of differance as in 10 or 100 hours more or less work. Like the one job I did where a guy came in on a road job and said where where 1 inch above grade so we took it down. 10 trucks 10 hours a day for 6 days. $55 and hour for each truck. A week later another guy did the survey again and said we had it 1 inch below grade. He said put it back. So again 10 trucks 10 hours a day t $55 and hour to put it back. This was on MO Hwy 54 and we wonder why Hwy repair cost so much

Measure twice cut once they say. The last time I used this loader in construction was I set two 30' beams on two 10' steel posts for my shop. Didn't have any help but I got it. I bolted a 4' channel iron on the bucket to make it into a crane. Now I'm about to build a post and beam shed for my trucks. So having a slow boom will be good

Never had to big of a pump on a loader tractor. 574 has a 12 gallon and pulls 3 gallon for the trans lubrication, steering and brakes. Pump is way to small. My brothers 2940 has about a 20 GPM pump and works just as nimble as any other and works a lot faster than the other one. I'd go with the 25 if I could get it. The accuracy is in the control of the lever guiding the bucket.
