Help identifying engine in Towmotor

Hello everyone, need some help identifying an engine. I'm trying to help it get running for a friend, but it's not close and I'm hoping to at least identify this baby and source parts. It's in a Towmotor solid tire forklift, "probably" a model 411S based on a photo found online. Of course the data plate is long gone, the owner can't find any identification on the engine. I thought Continental, but the distributor isn't in the middle of the head. Maybe a Hercules? Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance.

I think is IS a Continental with an alternative timing gear cover that accepts a vertical distributor unit, probably to get it out of the way of the exhaust system (etc.) that crosses over the head. Wish I could help you with a model number! IIRC, Continentals typically have on I.D. plate on the side of the engine blow the head on the block water jacket.

Manifold looks Continental to me. We had one with a magneto drive off the front cover, so I suppose anything is possible.
Sure is a funny way to build a forklift. Both of mine have the engine over the steering axle, and they have a large counterweight
besides. It looks like the gen/alt is UNDER the engine!

We had a small one like that work. It had a Y Continental engine (no distributor through the head. Do you have any block casting numbers?

I'm going to drive out to see this beast soon. I'll bring carb cleaner, rags and wire brushes and see what I can find. But a front drive distributor on a Continental makes sense. If I can identify the distributor that will make tune up parts easier to source. I've learned to NOT replace the same plugs on something this old, on the chance somebody just stuck whatever plugs screwed into the head, since "all spark plugs are the same."
Thanks everyone.
