Have another group ready to leave soon. Cleaned these guys out today and theyre happy to be back in their pens. 40 head seems yo be the magic number for our 2 60x20 pens. They seemed to gain better and have less trouble than the 47 we had 3 years ago and the 52 we took in 2 years ago. We dont grow corn anymore and dont feed cull potatoes (usually cheap carbs & starch in this area) so we bring them in at 5-700 lbs and swap them out a year later. Gives me a hobby I enjoy with some help from the kids and enough extra income to keep some equipment around and maintain the buildings.

Awww, the grey'ish one on the left edge of photo reminds me of Freddie - that I raised when I was about 10. Dad did have to take over pen cleaning when Freddie got big... cause he pinned me up against the wall one time and I couldn't breathe for a bit (probably because I played rodeo with him when he was a calf).

Freddie ended up in our freezer - that was the plan all along... and I knew that going in.

If my next-oldest sister walked in the house and smelled that mom was cooking beef - she'd ask, 'Is that Freddie?'... and she would not eat any meat that meal.

Yep...just tie a sack of bridge tolls around the neck and walk it over here...shouldn't lose much more than a hundred weight??still lots of good eating, right down to the moooo..

Oh dear yes they can get too big to play with! I just noticed that Freddie has his tongue out!

Had some calves a few years back and wife wanted to name them but not so she would get attached to them. We named them delmonico, chop steak, T bone, and patty melt. They all tasted good. Best is hamburg. To many old milk cows for beef. Don't care if I have steak or not.

Nice well taken care of cows.
As for Burgers and steaks, I like someone else to cook mine.
Longhorns, Texas Road House, Local Logan's Rib-eye, and Wendy's for burgers. My son does an awesome job grilling burgers. He smashes them flat on a flat Weber grill.
Makes my mouth water just thinking about them.
