JD 555A Bell-housing

I recently purchased a John Deere 555A. When we went to change out the hydraulic fluid and started it up, we noticed fluid leaking out of the bottom of the bell-housing. We found a crack about 3 inches long and were able to seal it up to stop the leak. In that same area there is a weep hole that is dripping fluid pretty rapidly. Can anyone give me an idea of what's going on?

There is a torque converter/fluid coupling in the housing so it probably needs to be split to repair the leak. The crack is troublesome in that
patching it to stop the leak is much different than grooving it out and properly repairing the crack. Cracks like that tend to continue until
component failure. Sorry this is such bad news. Jim

Might want to look into replacing the bell housing.

If it is broken, possibly it is also stressed to the point there is an alignment problem between the
engine and transmission. Any misalignment could have caused the seal to fail, especially if the
bearing or bushing behind the converter was damaged.
