1101355 Delco Remy generator

Hi
I have a Farmall A with a 1101355 Delco Remy generator.
I'm wondering how many amps it should be able to put out.

It won't keep up to the lights. Amp guage reads about 4 amps max with no lights, drops to a discharge of 8 amps with lights on.

Max at 15 amps or so. Voltage is the key factor. 7.2 to 7.4 is desirable at 3/4 throttle. Generators do not charge at less than 1/3 throttle (engine
speed, not lever position) Adjusting the third brush closer to the fixed Arm Brush can increase voltage/amps. If the light switch is 4 position, high
charge is the second position from full clockwise. If it has a regulator, adjusting that is possible, but best done by the book. Jim

Hi Jim
Thanks for the reply.
My multi- meter reads 6.05 volts engine off and 7.2 volts @ high idle.
3rd brush is as close to other brush as possible.
Brushes, commutator looked fine.
I found out that i needed to get the light switch better grounded.

What else can i do/ check to get the output closer to 15 amps??

Dale

My H would not keep up w lights on took it to a starter/gen shop one or two of the field coils were bad,
now does what it is supposed to do.

If the charging voltage stays above 7 most of the operating time it will be OK. To see how much it can produce, Ground the F terminal next to the
generator with a solid copper wire, when it is running High Idle and see what the charge rate is. The lights could be changed to LED units to totally
reduce the draw to maybe 2 amps. Jim

Here's what I've learnt.
The gen, cutoff were never the trouble.
No charge was caused by poor ground of the light/regulator switch.

Lights were drawing too much current partly because of poor grounds and partly because of current leakage somewhere along the hot wires to the lights........ haven't traced that yet.

Thanks for the replies,, Jim and Pete.

I was wondering if there's such a thing as 6 volt led's.
Noticed the lights aren't sealed beams like I thought they were, just bulbs and lenses.

Get rid of the third brush and install a regulator .
The 6V generators used on starting engine equipped JD two cylinder diesel were rated for 35amp.
say, no. If he does not want to keep it original, sheet can generators & mechanical VRs and go with alternator, otherwise let it be!

get ti refreshed new brushes clean the commutator end and then set the third brush for the amps you want 4amps is enough to keep
the batt charged
