County Super 6

Wasn't it here on Talk that somebody was asking recently about the value of a County tractor and where to advertise it? Machinery
Pete was telling yesterday of a 1960 Super 6 that sold in South Dakota recently for $20,000. He was telling too of a model 1474
that sold in England last month for $270,920 USD.

There were a few County tractors around during the 1970's. There were a bunch of years where it was pretty wet to spread manure or chop corn so small farmers were looking for economical answers. Hard to recall at this point but the price was quite reasonable maybe around 6-7 thousand dollars. Far less than what it would cost for a MFWD tractor at the time.

It should be said that the County tractors that I am referring to were coming in used and perhaps across the ocean from Britain. Don't know if the were being sold new in the US. It has been so long since I have had thought about those tractors.

There was a Ford Super Six on a beef fed lot near us in the 60s. First 4 wheel drive I had ever seen. The guy that ended up with it in the 90s needed complete rebuild on the front differential, but couldnt get any parts. It ended up going to the tractor wrecker

Upon having viewed pictures the ones that I recall had to be the Super 4- 5000. A 5000 tractor basically with a power front axle as well as the standard rear axle. Around 65 HP. Good if chopping one row of corn but a bit over matched for 2 rows.

Here is the one from South Dakota that sold last week. This guy had a lifetime collection of many Ford tractors that were all running tractors and had been fixed up and painted when needed. In the background is a Ford Commander 6000. He had collected 4 of them , 3 red ones and one blue one . Rare to see one 6000 at auction let alone 3. Think running collector tractors coming up in value.

There was one around here for a lot of years, got passed between several owners. Harry Allen was the local Ford dealer and sold it new. I remember an NFO milk strike, that tractor was on the front page of the paper pulling one of those side slinger spreaders slinging milk. Gene was the last one in the community to own it. He had put a cab on it and used it to plow snow. When he died and they had his auction, somebody came all the way from Kansas I think it was, and bought that one. Having seen it around all the time, it wasn't rare to me, so I didn't have any idea it was that valuable or sought after.

There were quite a few of them in Quebec at one time. Many with a snowblower on the front with another engine one the back as a power unit.

I believe I have purchased the tractor mentioned in this post. Not too many County Super 6 tractors with cab/blade that were purchased out of Kansas. Would you be able to provide me with any additional information on this tractor? I'd love to track down the newspaper with the NFO strike article. What town was Harry Allen FORD? Who was the family who auctioned it off? Thanks in advance for the help.
