Sickle mower rock gaurds

I've worn out many of these, but never broke one. I wanted to bend a very old one (circa 1940's) 90 degrees for a special project. Red hot and it was still as tough as it was stone cold. What the heck are these made of? It doesn't appear to be cast iron as I can't break it either.

Likely Mailable steel. A casting, but not cast iron. It will need to be hotter than red, probably bright orange to bend. You will need a stout pipe that fits where the bend needs to be to force it. Keep heating while bending. They may also crack and fail. Jim

All the manuals I have for sickle bar mowers have in them how to adjust them just by bending them. Not sure if you could bend them that much but they where made to be bent to adjust them to the sickle bar.
