On our recent trip I saw this building and thought it so interesting that I stopped for a photo. I didn't inquire as to its purpose - probably a combination home and shop? It's located along US highway 52 just north of Amboy, Illinois.

They just added a new description to our local tax codes BARN-O-MINUIM oe something like that to reflect those house/shop type structures.

Was up north to Grand Maris in March to a wedding, driving around town we saw a house that had the second story two to three feet larger than the first story on three sides couldn't see back of house. Maybe the lot would only allow a certain size foot print I don't know wish I would have taken a pic of it.

Maybe the husband added the top as a doghouse. When ma wouldn't let him in the bedroom.

In the right location that top story would be THE place in the home to gather. Watch the seasons come and go , add bird feeders, small pond and watch mother nature at her best. Morning coffee evening beverage of choice.

'd live in the cupola and keep my tractors downstairs.

If you travel Mc Cleod, Wright, or Sibley counties in central Minnesota youll see that detail in the architecture on the barns, granaries, and corn cribs of the area. It is probably a detail brought with the Eastern European builders that settled the area.

That is a little unusual. Down the street from me there is a house attached to their horse barn. I guess they like their horses. Stan

While doing the TractorCade Ride in Belviue Ia. I saw similar construction projects .Several had the living quarters integrated with a shop. I like the concept! CM

That is a new take on a tuck-under garage. They must be young or don't mind climbing steps. I would be concerned about how many times those deck posts in the driveway can be bumped and how many fenders could get dented.
