Hydraulic cylinder

I was discing with my 706 gas and was having trouble with the cylinder raising the disc. In the end it wouldn't raise it at all, wouldn't even lower the wheels to the ground. I thought I had a bad cylinder so I bought a new one wjth new hoses and couplings and still have the same problem. If I change the hoses around at the tractor the cylinder will move the opposite direction but then won't go the other way. The tractor lugs like the pump is working when I try to get the cylinder to move but nothing happens.

Did the new cylinder come with hoses? Did you use the same hoses and male remote tips from your old cylinder? If you used the old ones there is a possibility that the problem is with one of the male quick coupler tips. Put on a new pair and see if it works. Do you have any other equipment with hydraulics that you could hook the tractor to to see if it will raise and lower that machine?

I bought the hoses and new ends separate from the cylinder. So it is all new. It seems the problem is in the tractor because the cylinder works both ways if you switch the hoses around. Can the valve on the tractor go bad?

One of the couplings would spray fluid if you accidentally hit the lever so i did switch that out with another one but the problem didn't change. Maybe I switch out the other coupler too?

Your description of how it is lugging down sounds like it may be hooked up wrong. Lacking a path for return flow.

Assuming your tractor has two pair of remotes double check that you have it hooked up to a pair of couplers going the same control circuit.

I was in Little Falls this morning and neither Fleet supply of TSC had anything but 1/2 in npt couplers. I know mine are bigger that that so I'll try Fleet Farm or Runnings in St Cloud. There seems to be a shortage of this kind of stuff.

They are probably a 7/8 -14 thread coupler. Just use pipe thread to 7/8-14 adapters for the threads or put pipe thread hoses on the tractor. Coupler is not working right. Some times if you use the IH tip with the point on a Pioneer with the ball it can get out of alignment and then will act just like you describe. Had it happen a few times.

I replaced one coupler and the new one had 1/2 pipe thread, that was smaller then the original so i had a new hose made to fit it.The tractor has the breakaway type fittings. I can't find ant couplers the same size as the original so I bought an adapter today and another 1/2 coupler. I'll try this next time i get to the farm, might be a week or 2.
