Horse power ratings

When you look up horsepower ratings on the older tractors you see drawbar and belt ratings. Would power at the pto be the same as the belt rating?

Depends on the tractor how close. Some it's the same. But with the older case tractors you can run the belt without the pto engaged, that means that the hydraulic pump doesn't turn so no drag from that. Late dc's with live power wouldn't have that small advantage.

I would suspect older tractors with horizonal cylinders and the belt pulley on the crankshaft (like JD 2-cylinders) would have a little more belt HP than pto, no gears involved.

Close 'nuff.

Due to wheel slip, there's a lot of power lost between the crankshaft and drawbar. Not so much between the crank and belt.
