Mosquito control?

They are really bad this year. I know the basics drain water and all that but how do you all control them? Spray? thanks, joe
 
Because of W Nile, our country health department sprays the county often. Usually 1030 pm

Mosquitoes around house aren't bad.

Down in the old gravel pit, they will carry you away..

Did you know only angry female mosquitoes bite?
 
Put you a few bat houses and forget about the mosquitos and having to spray. Live right on the river with plenty of swamp water but just about dark ever night the bats come out dipping and darting but they sure keep the bugs away

Where's the best place to locate bat house?

How high? how far away from buildings ?
How far away from lakes?

We have one bat house on it's way.

We used to have bats. No more.
 
George I place them as high as my man lift will reach, (about 40 ft) on the east side of trees , and usually one with easy access , like out at the edge of the yard. Was not a believer until my neighbor got me a house and since then I have built 3 more. We had the kids in for the 4th and they shot a bunch of fireworks. I was really worried that it might affect the bats but I just came in from sitting out on the porch and they are batting like heck.
 
We have very few in N MN this year, too dry! I have never seen so few mosquitos, on the other hand, the ticks are bad, I spray my work cloths with Permethrin, it helps.

Bat poo scares me. I 10 years ago I got histopasmosis. Fungus grows in ground. Caused from bat, bird and chicken poo. It's a Lung infection symptoms like C-19 but not infectious. Dang near killed me.
 
They spray in towns around here.
We have very little problem out in the country and I have a fish pond 75 feet from the house and we have been wet around here almost all spring and summer.

I have a 40x50 bat condominium complex. We can house hundreds of them. We have every few mosquitoes.

I was surprised to be in your shop in the evening, and not be devoured by mosquitoes. Up here, once dusk comes... I'd best have repellent on or the skeeters will get me.
 
If your going to do something, do it right, or at least we can dream about it.

We visited with some old friends of my wife, they had quite the elaborate set up in the back yard.

Stocked trout pond with a wooden dock/walkway going a third of the way across it.

On fancy wrought iron hangers they had a series of electric bug zappers hanging out over the water.

Water attracted the bugs
Zapper killed and dropped them into the water
Trout surfaced continuously for the free meal
 

My son believes in Dynatrap he has 3 around the house. I brought one no doubt it works. It won't get'em all it will but a big dent in the population.

Hobo, that is the first one that I have seen that generates CO2. I have to believe that it works.
