Electric motor ?

The lift motor on the 1956 Bally bowling machine is making a racket. To start it I have to spin it by hand.

Took the motor apart.

The bearings doesn't seem to have a lot of play. As you can see the rotor has been rubbing.

The stationary part of the motor only shows rubbing on one side in a small area at the end. Not all the way around.

Have you ever filled a little off either the rotor or the stator to get motor to work?

I can't find a replacement motor.

It's a fractional hp shaded pole motor.
Motor is smaller than a fan motor in bathroom.

Replacing the bearings Is likely the only real solution. The end frame bearing in the gear housing that positions the tip of the shaft is most worn. It should be easy to remove. you might need to slice it so it can collapse using a crafters saw, or a shaped hack saw blade. Once sawn it will be easy to pull out. A new Oilite bushing is easily found if standard size, or turned to dimension. +.001 on the shaft journal. Jim

If you remove any metal from the rotor it will be out of balance, but it looks like some has already been removed. I would say it needs new bearings, or the fit in the housing is bad. You should be able to feel where the problem is.

Try calling a few of those techs that work on pinballl and jukes and other games. Probably has one on his truck. LOL

Yes I did.
And after getting it apart I was wrong.
The one on Ebay is newer, not the same. .
Don't think I have much of a choice but I rebuilt.

Stan,
The bearing and shaft look good.
Impossible to get the gear off the end of the shaft.
The bearing appears to be loose..
I bent the metal that holds the bearing in place.
Will clean out the hole in stater with a ream to see if anything is out of round. OR use a rotary file and grind a little on the part that rubbed.
Need to do something. Grandkids love to bowl when they come to see grandpa..

Why won't the gear come off? Use a bearing puller on it. Or take it to a press. What holds the gear on?

You really need to replace the bearing.
