Great shot! Were you using a long lens? Fast shutter speed? Really came together, even if you didn't plan it that way!

Sony a6000 with a 200-600 lens, 1/2000 shutter! Never saw the red winged blackbird till I was editing my photos!
 
That is a beautiful picture; once in a lifetime probably.
I would guess that the red-winged blackbird has a nest in those rushes and is trying to chase that big intruder away, they have a reputation for being territorial and fearless.
 
One has to watch out for the fledglings in tall grasses, either they nest there or fledge to high grasses. I rescued one from a
field I was mowing. He dropped down into the uncut area and started crawling at the base of the plants. I somehow found him/her
in the thick of it and when let go, flew pretty decent, landed in a nearby buckthorn and stayed there, another day or so and
flying will be nearly perfect. His folks were nearby. Was fun to see him make it to the buckthorn, struggling just a little,
but made a good landing !
