Field sprayer ideas

Need some ideas....on my tractor sprayer I
have rebuilt all of the pivot points on
the outer boom wings but they are still
prone to flop open enough to be dangerous
when traveling down the road or through
narrow farm entrances. I made these
support arms to be able to pin them up for
transport. They work good but it can kill
time having to get in and out to lock them
up. Anyone have any suggestions on how to
possibly make them hydraulically lock and
unlock in the transport cradle ? I have 1
spare unused remote that could operate it.

Can you make a cradle to set them down in instead of the pin. Raise it up with 3-point swing them in and lower them down into cradle.

Thanks SV. I started out with just a open cradle but if you hit a bump just right it will jump out on account of the shock system on it. Hence the reason for having to lock/ pin them.

I sprayed with a similar rig on a 4450 for quite a few years. Like you, I had to get out to unlock and fold. It was a piain, but I figured if I was too tired to do that, I maybe was better off going home and calling it a day :)

These will fold hydraulically. Just gets time consuming and tiring to have to put the pins in the cradle. Didn't know if some kinda latch system from another make of equipment could be grafted to this to work.

You can make anything but that is why sprayers are so high. We have a 60 ft boom on a 1000 gallon trailer sprayer. Folds up up then bends in the middle. Is about 15ft high and 18 ft. Wide. Takes a while to fold. You can probably fold yours by hand while it is folding. And is complicated.

could you make a J-hook design that would be a little deeper but raise the 3 point up to get out of the cradle?

Maybe convert the pin bracket to a "fish mouth" shape of flat bar.
Then a normally extended plunger rod style 12vdc solenoid.
Mount solenoid on one leg of fish mouth with plunger being the latch once boom is retracted all the way.

I know it takes time to get in nd out to lock and unlock them. But, how long would it take to repair damage caused by a fence post?

Last time there was a mishap it took a solid days time and 3k to replace. Some of the help was moving it to a different farm and 1 boom swung in while pulling over on the road shoulder. It wrapped it around the axle. That's why the holders are on it now.

Mine are 60 foot and have a cradle that is open on top with a lip that bends in so the boom can slide out to the side when transporting and can't bounce out.
