Oliver 1550 free wheeling

When using Oliver 1550 with bush hog mower, it wants to free wheel when going down an incline. Should it be in direct drive or hydra drive and will that stop the free wheeling?

It is free wheeling because it is in hydra power drive. The slower speed with the rod/lever pulled out. It should not free wheel in direct drive. Here is my warning. If in hydra power drive ( low range) and it is free wheeling do not push the lever forward into direct to slow down. Use brakes to slow down then shift into direct. It is very bad to slam it into direct to hold the tractor back like that. If your new to it I would recommend a lower gear first and run it in direct till you have a feel for your tractor. Im guessing you havent had it very long and not quite used to it yet.
