NH 256 telescoping driveline

On the NH 256 rake there is a telescoping driveline between the
gear box and the left wheel. The driveline is square and as it wears
there is a bit of slop between each section of that driveline.
How much wear can there be before it causes problems or requires
replacement?
Can it be repaired?

I shaft attached to a wheel turns so slowly balance is not an issue. Better to be sloppy than bound up and unable to telescope.

I wouldn't worry too much until it starts getting thin enough to loose structural strength.

I have never seen one too worn to function. No worries, keep rakeing. BTW,greaseing/oiling it once in a while helps too.

Mine is pretty sloppy/floppy. But it telescopes freely without binding. I just recently replaced the lower u-joint, which pretty bad as well as the 2 on the shaft between the wheels. But it had been functioning perfectly. Mark.

Mine would scare ya. Was like that 15 year ago when I bought it. U joints are good though. When ya hit heavy hay and the shaft slips, replace it. Just make sure it's the shaft and not the clutch. Rake on my friend.
