New Holland 326

Been bailing with 326 new Holland square baler, with my 806 diesel. For some reason the 806 surges really bad to where I kind of get worried about tearing drive line up in tractor. I unloosen all springs and slipped the clutches to where they were hot. What else could be the issue or what else should I look at. Knife and plunger bearings are in good shape, I can turn baler over by hand with no hay in chamber. The grass I am bailing is real stemmy and thick should I decrease my Windrow size and slow down a bit? 806 should be plenty of horse power to run baler, would not understand why it would surge the tractor really bad.

It is perfectly normal for a tractor governor to respond to the load of the plunger head compressing the hay, even a large tractor. It sounds like yours is excessive so I would be checking for slop in the governor linkage.
