Some of you missed the main point.....this guy called and talked for 45 minutes, told me he was 100% going to buy it. Asked about the size, weight, everything. Said he would hook up a trailer and be waiting in my driveway when I got home from church. Said the price was perfect, pictures and video was great. He was going to buy it. Asked me to mark it as sold, pending pickup, standard on Facebook marketplace. Then he shows up in a car, and chit chats for an hour about everything but the tractor. Finally I asked him if someone was coming with a trailer and he said no he really wasn't interested. Grrrrrr. Next guy who asked me the night before to let him know if deal fell through, already got the trailer hooked up, shows up in a mini van!! With a buddy who had never seen a tractor like that and wanted to look. Neither one made a counter offer or even acted like they were going to buy. That's my issue!! 3rd guy shows up in a fancy SUV, wife 3 cute kids, paid for it and drove it 12+ miles home. Really nice family. It went to the right place.

Sounds more like he is casing your place to come back when you are gone and clean you out. You might step up security as much as you can.

I am finding this year more people are so tiered of all our restrictions that to come out and chit chat is all they want. We are in some stupid lock down for over a year that people are going mental and if they have to come to my place to chit chat in order to stay a little sane I am ok with that. Farm business is still allowed so they are using that as an excuse to go places where they can throw of a mask and see a human and talk.

I have been selling farm puppies and rabbits and sheep and people come here for 2 hours to buy or not to buy. I love it as I can sit and have coffee and talk with anyone.

Not sure if that is why people are telling you they will buy and don't but for myself I don't care if they just come for a visit.

I have enjoyed all the company we have been getting and it is a chance to witness for Christ.

All the way you look at it I guess

Didn't miss the point at all. That's the kind of stuff you deal with if you sell to the public. Actually that's quite tame.

Could be the one that shows up to buy hay, said he was bringing help to load. Help consisted of four kids under 10 years of age. They proceeded to tear off on random directions, eventually settling on running out into the middle of my hay field, laying down end to end, and rolling their way back to the barn.

Agree that something was off with the first party. The second party is to show you that sometimes you have to wade through a few dingalings to find your buyer. It's nice when it is one and done with a no nonsense buyer but nonsense often comes with dealing with the general public. Next time you will know not to let someone ramble on for an hour without knowing if there is sincere intent to buy.

Pulled the tractor down to the gate. Never made it past there. Everything, except the house is hidden over a hill, can't see much from the gate.

Kevin, I don't do Facejunk.
I have sold on Craigslist a little bit.
I don't even like doing that because I am a bit afraid of strangers that might look around and see what they could come back and steal.
That is just me and I don't do much selling anyway.
Most everything I have sold is by someone I know that knows a person who wants something.
If someone asks when I am home, I tell them 'all the time' which is almost true.
By the way, I cased your place when I was there and will be driving the 250 miles to steal something when I know you are not home.LOL
I did get something extra when I was at your place.
SOME GREAT FRIENDS!!!!!

(quoted from post at 10:05:54 06/21/21) Pulled the tractor down to the gate. Never made it past there. Everything, except the house is hidden over a hill, can't see much from the gate.

I do the same thing.
Item gets moved out front for them to look it over.
Nothing but house can be seen.
Nobody gets to see what else might be for sale even if they buy the first item.

Grandpa, for yearssssssssss I was a used tractor and implement dealer AND I HEARD IT ALL LOL Its NOT sold till you get the money.

If one asked if I would hold it Id say sure UNLESS someone shows up with cash BEFORE you get here

If on the phone (hadnt even seen it yet) and asked the least Id take ID SAY WHATS THE MOST YOU WILL GIVE to which they would say I will have to come look WELL DUH

I priced something and did NOT come down unless one made an offer, again if asked my least price I asked whats the most you will give I REFUSED TO PLAY THE GAME of me coming down first and only after that they made an offer or wanted to split in the middle NOOOOOOOOOOOO if were gonna split I start with MY FIRST PRICE NOTTTTTTTT MY REDUCED PRICE GRRRRRRRRRR

If someone was there over 15 minutes hum hawing around my wife would come to the door saying someone called and wants to know if its still for sale THE DUDE WOULD GET NERVOUS AND EITHER BUY IT OR LEAVE and I didn't care which

If someone says they have to talk it over with the wife YOU NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN

I learned NOT to sell, just say there it is, look it over, heres what I know or dont know, youre buying it like I did as is where is TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT or make an offer

I was NOT a good salesman I was grouchy and didnt give a *&^%$# but made a living at it along with farming

John T , I guess I'm a bit grumpy, I love to visit with folks and show off my tractor collection,if I know that's why you are there. Just hate it when folks waste my time. I told the first guy ,the night before, that we were going to my folks house after church, he was 200% sure he would be at my house with cash and trailer and I could be on my way, hate to ask, Sunday, father's day, but I don't want to miss the deal

GP,
I sold a very unusual go cart. It was built like a race car. I posted on Craigslist list and said $800 firm. Don't waste your time an mine by low balling me. I only got one call after posting don't waste my time. That person came, drove the go cart and we were both happy.

John T and others have interesting takes on the issue. It is not rude to start a phone or in person sale deal with the following-- I have a short window here to make this sale happen. I am in the middle of preparing to (take your choice) butcher a hog, castrate 5 sheep, dehorn a bull, Assist with an artificial insemination of a herd of heifers, work with a neighbor to capture a loose bull. If they are looky loos, they will likely jump in the car and leave. Jim

When someone comes to buy something I start the conversation by saying are you here to look at the ____?. Then I say it's right over here and lead them to it. That gets them looking at the thing quickly, though some still take a long time. Once I was selling a 1930s gas restaurant stove that we had just replaced with a 1980s stove, and the customer agreed that the price was fair but couldn't make up his mind if he wanted it. He was nice, but after about half an hour of conversation I said take as much time as you need to think it over, I need to go and stack some firewood but you can get me if you want it loaded, and he decided right then to buy it.

Hey I'm old n grump myself lol don't feel bad. Im just NOT into wasting time and putting up with BS lol

I often hear people say they don't want to sell to a dealer or send something to auction because they won't get full value out of it. Well everything takes work, selling on your own you may get more but you gotta work for it.

Where I live there is an issue with people posting online they want to buy something. Then the crooks go around and drive onto someone's property to see if they have that item and come back later and get it. This is what I was thinking the guy was up to. They've been seen photographing people's property. Some people think it was the tax assessor but the tax office said all of their vehicles are clearly marked and these weren't.

I've gotten to taking everything to a consignment auction 80 miles away. Got tired of the Bull. When I started doing that I was netting way more there than what I was asking without the crap. Now I don't advertise it goes straight to the auction. Got a newer Deere cornhead last year so I'll be loading up the 643 this week and hauling it there.

Yea, thats a poor deal, people are kinda odd.

Just, understand if we are buyers, we run into the same crap from some sellers, too!

It runs both ways.

I'm learning a lot about tractor jockeys. Lol

I reckon I'm having a hard time understanding all this because I'm not a trader. When I buy something it's because it's what I want or need. Either way the only way it leaves is if I scrap it or give it away. When I talk to a seller I want to know what he knows about whatever it is he's selling. At the same time I'm shooting the breeze to get a handle on his character. Doesn't matter how good a deal is his character is what seals the deal.
If you're too busy to talk to me that's fine and I'll leave you alone.

One more important detail. I never buy an automobile, truck, or tractor without praying about it. Anytime I'm in the market for either I'm going to talk to you, check it out and tell you I'll let you know. If the Good Lord wants me to have it you'll still have it the next day when I get there. If not it wasn't meant to be so I'm fine either way.

.

You would never make it as a salesman.
You need to weed threw a lot of tire kickers to find someone ready to buy.

And from the buyers point of view...
Every impulse buy I have ever made turned out to be a bad deal.
It takes me at least 2 weeks to buy a new car.

You think a bit like me. I always say the same thing.
If its gone then God had other plans for me.
