I Need a Seal Driver

I finally got parts so I can start putting the Oliver 1550 back together. I need to replace the seal on the brake pinion shaft. It is recessed about 2inside the housing, the pinion shaft is almost 6 long. The seal is 3 3/4 in diameter. I dont have anything that big to use for a seal driver, any ideas??

How about a piece of 4" PVC pipe? put it on your table saw and take a cut or three out of it lengthwise. Squeeze it with two hose clamps until you get the right size.

I do too, but nothing that big, I hate to buy a 10'length to get a 8 piece for a driver.

Stop by the local muffler shop, see if they have a scrap piece or can cut you a short piece. Square the end with the grinder if needed.

Just use a fitting like a tee or coupling for it and don't have to buy a 10 ft length. coupling for a 3 inch pipe might be just about right size without doing anything.

I can't believe you got the seal out that easy. Any of mine you would have to take the cover off to get it. I think if it came out that easy you should be able to gently go around it with a wood dowel rod and drive it in.

It didn't come out that easy, the first one I've ever had to heat it up to get it out!!

I made a quick trip to Menards, I didn't realize that they sold PVC pipe in 2' lengths. I got a piece of 4 pipe and cut to the length I needed and got the seal in and the brakes back together. Thanks, Chris
