Call me about a tractor for sale, talk for 45 minutes, ask me to hold it until tomorrow afternoon. Then show up in a car or mini van. With no trailer!!!!! Good grief, go to a tractor show. Dont waste my time...... Grrrrrr

They could of driven the tractor home? We had a guy show up to buy and haul a piano (big one) in a small car, but he brought a neighbor lady to help! I ended up delivering it, we wanted it gone!

If you are a buyer dont show up with a trailer, you look too eager. That would be foolish.

Paul

I have in the past shown up to check on a tractor in a car and buy it and come back say 30-60 minutes later to pick it up. The Case VAC I use to rake hay I found on Craig's list and he wanted $300. I call him about 30 minutes after he had posted it and told him I would buy it. Told him I could come and give him a down payment that evening. He told me do so in the morning. I went over and looked at it and gave him $100 and told him I'd be back with the rest and my truck and trailer.

Sorry but the average person doesn't move at tractor jockey speed. I wouldn't show up with a trailer either. If you were selling it cheap enough for me to do that I would assume it has major mechanical issues or was stolen so I wouldn't bother.

You did not mention the end of the story. Did he buy it or not. Ive taken a deposit on an item before and buyer came back ready with trailer.

Wrong Paul,
If Im driving an hour or more then trailer is coming with me, eager has nothing to do with it, just dont want to have to make another trip if I want it. Heck, as a matter of fact Im always pretty sure Im going to buy regardless of distance and trailer is coming with me to begin with. What happened to GP Love Im assuming is some tire kicking jerk that wasted his time, has happened to me more than once on stuff Ive put up for sale, and will happen again Im sure. As for myself, once Ive talked to somebody about a tractor, truck, equipment, etc then my trailer will be with me and eager has nothing to do with it, its just more feasible to have it than make another trip to get it and possibly miss out on the sale by not loading it up on trailer when first looking it over, the early bird always gets the worm, if youre interested in something then you better have your trailer with you or the next guy to show up will !!!!!

For what it is worth, I've NEVER taken a trailer to look at something. If I purchase something, I make out a bill of sale, leave a down payment, and then arrange to pick up.

So what's the big deal? Not everyone has a trailer, some people have to hire it done or have a friend with a trailer do it. Or if it was close he could have been planning to drive it home if he bought it. I own a trailer but a rock crusher I bought recently was too heavy and required a winch to load so I just hired a local towing company to move it on their rollback truck

Next time to save time, confusion, personal interaction and grief, I would send him a picture and the directions to this website. That way he could ask if anyone knows what it is, what it's worth, where its made, if anyone has one, used one, how to use it, can it be used for something it wasn't designed to do?

I had a tractor for sale on CL. Person called and said he would buy it if it was closer. I hauled it 70 miles to get it closer, he showed without a trailer and looked it over and said he had one like it and wanted to see ow the hydraulics were hooked up, got in his van and left me sitting. No more Mr. nice guy

Normal stuff buying and selling,I made a deal with a guy Saturday to buy a tractor he has, supposed to pick it up Tuesday evening.I'm betting he'll back out,so it goes buying and selling.
On the other hand a fellow from PA delivered a tractor today that I traded for sight unseen he told me what all about the tractor we made the deal I was going to take it regardless.Turned out to be much better than I thought it might be,win some, lose some.

I don't go and look unless there is a good chance that I will buy. If it looks good, I don't need to kill the time and fuel of a second trip. Bringing a trailer separates me from the tire kickers, and if the item is priced as they often are, such that 10% can be taken off to "close the deal", having my trailer makes it that much more likely. I will not reduce my price over the phone, or even in person if the looker does not come across as sincere.

It would be very rare for me to bring a trailer to look at something unless I was very sure. I most always go look, make a deal, pay, then make arrangements to pick it up.

Easy fix to the whole thing: DON'T SELL ANYTHING!

There is one guarantee if you are selling anything, and that is people are going to waste your time. 90% will waste your time, and there is nothing you can do about it. If you can't abide by that, then don't put anything up for sale.

That's what I have learned works best for me. I go look in my little knock around car. I use my truck to haul, not to run up and down the road looking at something.
