Internet Bidding

My question is how does anyone in the crowd know if they really have a internet bidder or not, something fishy happened to day at a Auction,i am very suspecius of the same old thing as sky bids, your opinion welcome!

The answer is you don't! There is no way to know if there is really an internet bidder. So, having said that, I offer the following:

1) Only bid what you are willing to pay for an item.
2) There are no friends at an auction.
3) You have no control over what you are told that others (like internet bidders) have really bid, so stick with #1!

I do remember at one auction I was bidding on an item I was interested in. Seems I found myself bidding against the back wall. I dropped out when the bid went over my willingness to pay. The auctioneer pointed to me and said SOLD! at a bid I did not make (over my limit). So, he started the bidding over again - this time honestly? And I got the item. I will never again attend one of his auctions. Cheat me once, shame on you. Cheat me twice, shame on ME!

So they started the bidding over and you bid against the wall again??? If the auctioneer did that to you why would you even bid again? Why would you just not walk away and leave? Also you can watch the on line bidding on your phone at the same time if you have a smart phone. Also some auctions have screens where you can watch the on line bidding. How does the on line bidder know there is a real bid on site. As much distrust of auctioneers I see on this site don't know why anyone goes to auctions.

Bottom line is no one can make you pay more than you want to pay.I'll sometimes put in a internet bid ahead of time when I am physically going to be at an auction that way no one knows if I'm bidding against them or not.You can watch the bidding if you have a smart phone.

Auctions are auctions some stuff goes on sometimes but not nearly as much as many people imagine.I've been going to auctions for 60 years love them, the challenge is half the fun.

I wasn't bidding against teh wall the second time, and I got the item for a price I was willing to pay.

Auctions are sometimes the only place you can find some items. As long an item is within the price I am willing to pay, I will bid. Once it goes over that, I let it go to somebody that is willing to pay more for it.

Even if the auctioneer is a crook, I KNOW WHAT I AM WILLING TO PAY!

I recently won an item being the internet bidder. For $50 less then my max bid. Feel like this auctioneer was fairly honest or he would have taken the last 50.

I had been hoping to go to a sale tomorrow to buy an item I think I badly need. Plans got changed and now I cannot go in time. Buyers fee of 10% online, but I can bid it up and pick it up later. I only bid as much as I am willing to pay. If they get me to my max, well I guess I was willing to pay it. Some guys think they should be able to buy everything they want at a sale at 5 cents on the dollar of what it is worth. That is not how sales work

Was bidding on a wagon last summer, I was really close to having the bid and.... the internet failed.

It took them 15 minutes to get whatever failed reset and working again.

The auctioneer felt really bad, he chatted to me every 4 minutes. He said he has to be fair and let the internet have a chance before saying sold, but he actually did seem to care, as the crowd started walking away you knew the delay was busting his chops pretty bad.

They got up and running, asked the onlinefella if he wanted to bid, and said Sold to me, there was zero fooling around once things got back.

He gave me a free hat, and I was fine the whole time, I kidded with him a bit at the beginning of the delay, then I thought maybe its best for me to just be quiet and not trigger someone in the audience somehow. You know how some people are.....

An hour later I was in line at the food stand, auctioneer walks by, says oh, thank you for being so patient, and got the food people attention - my meal was on him.

It was a hassle, but seemed they tried real hard and I wasnt expecting the free meal or anything. I bid my prove and that was how it is, I cant control an auction, the auctioneer an play games, but I can only control how much I bid and if I dont get it, I go on to the next item or auction.

Most everything on my farm comes from an auction.

I haven't participated in many online auctions, but have been VERY pleased when I did. They were for a somewhat local auctioneer, and the auction was done via internet using Proxibid. This was last Summer, peak of the virus scare.

Many (MANY) years ago, not too long after we got married, we were at a small auction just outside Brainerd, MN. Wife wanted to bid on something, but we were in a bad place to be seen by the auctioneer. So I moved to a more advantageous spot and started bidding. Our High Price came and went -- I wanted this for my new bride, so I kept bidding! After a while, the auctioneer stopped the bidding and asked, "[i:bef0d863ac]Hey, aren't you two together?[/i:bef0d863ac]" Yup, that's right. I had been bidding against my wife, who was tucked into a corner where I could not see who I was bidding against. The auctioneer rolled back the bids quite a ways and the whole audience had some good entertainment. ...And yes, [b:bef0d863ac]WE[/b:bef0d863ac] won the bid! *lol*

Be sure you note the fine print. Up here in the Pacific Northwest we have a large auction house that went online only due to nnalert 19. Most auctions there is a 13% Buyer's Premium and all the billing is done through their home office where they add 10% state sales tax no matter where the item is located. A $10,000 winning bid will cost you $13,673 out the door.

Years ago at a cousins estate sale some of my great
grandmothers stuff was being sold. My mother stood around
a corner and bid my other cousins bids up
