my 8312 CIH mower has been on life support for a while. Got really bad last week. Yesterday, I took the 1086 to my brother's and borrowed his much nicer New Idea 5512. Got about 10 acres mowed, when it got the shakes real bad. Now, I'm changing the bearing on the easy-to-get-to end of the flail conditioner shaft. Yippee! Could be worse, like the drive end of the same shaft.

Know how you feel. I went out around 11:30 to cut hay. I got around the field one time an the sickle bar locked up. Get off the tractor to see what was wrong and the ledger plate on the shoe on the end of the bar had come loose and locked up the outer section. Took more time to fix then the time it took to break. LOL Had to come in the cool off for a bit 90 plus today

i go over my machines with a fine tooth comb, and i can tell when something is about to go wrong. i fix it first.

I'm not going to say anything or I'll get a boat load of problems. Though All my hay is down and all but 5 windrows is baled now. Will do the last 5 tomorrow after I put the rest of it away in the barn. About 60-70 bales to put inside. These are 4x4 bales.

From about 1963 until 1977 my Dad mowed hay with an old Ford sickle mower. It would only fit on the TO-30. We had no trouble with the tractor - but the mower broke constantly. Attacks by bumble bees in the clover field often occurred as the mower broke down. Finally we got a new IH mower that fit on the 4020 diesel. We were in hog heaven after an eternity of fixing that old Ford mower.
