single rib front tires

Would running old-stlye single rib fronts on a manual steering ford 2000 make it steer any easier than the tri-ribs it came with? they need replaced anyhow so Im wondering if it would be worthwhile.

not a chance, may as well put steel wheels on the front. the less psi to the ground the easier to steer. put 4 ribs on it.

At slow maneuvering speeds on concrete with 45psi the single rib is power steering. On soft loam way harder to steer than a tri rib or 4 rib.
In mud the single rib is a worthless knife into oblivion. At modest inflation pressure the contact patch of the single rib is still more difficult to
turn, but will turn the tractor somewhat better. My non power steering choice is 4 rib with equal sized ribs and open space for a wide front, 3 rib for
a narrow front. I drove a 8N with single rib 20psi. with a loader (empty) my arms and back were sore for 3 days. Jim

i think your not getting what i mean, yes i know a flat tire will steer harder. i am saying less psi to the ground not in tire. a small fence post is easier to pound in he ground than a large post. one single rib will sink more than 4 ribs, making it easier to turn. same with tractor pulling a wide rear tire will spin before the regular tire.

yes, i was referring to field soil. but on a pavement might be benefit to less ribs.. less drag.

Take a look at a Rib Implement L-1 pattern tire. Five ribs but they're only about 1/4" tall. I had the 3 rib on my 4000. The steering always shuddered. After replacing with the L-1 pattern, no more shudder and the tractor steers much easier. The ribs were causing the slave cylinder to continuously over correct. I'd never go back to a three rib unless the tractor had a steering motor and steering cylinders.

All this talk about ribs is making me hungry, I usually order a full rack. Baked beans on the side.

My tractor has a loader with power steering and light truck tires on front. Steers fine no matter how many ribs Ive eaten. BTW Id never considered what NASCAR looks like spelled backwards.
