took a little trip to pick up a field sprayer i bought and got a surprise. the old guy passed a few years ago and was an ih man. he bought this 1974 966 new, has almost 5200 hrs. he purposely did not want a cab the son in law said. i made the round trip of 1100 km, in 16 hrs.

yes,... just puzzled at the farmall on emblem. it is a nice unit! plus has a 986 sitting right beside it. quonset is full of all ih machinery. immaculate stuff. all from the 1980's pretty well.

Ive thought about getting a cab but then I still havent done it the negatives outway the positives. I would like to sound proof and put ac in one then I think it would be ok

i would be out in the dust and fresh air anyday before them hot boxes. come in at the end of the day like a brown boy.

Its not bad when its warm its actually better its when your trying to finish plowing the end of November first part of December that a cab would be nice or drilling in January

Yes that is a nice tractor. I have a 1976 Black stripe with a cab, and those cabs are noisy and rattled. I opened the windows and took off the doors for summer, and it wasnt too bad. Now come fall , spreading manure, ploughing or chopping corn, it was a heck of a lot better inside that can, than out in the weather. Cold fall winds , rain showers or snow, having the cab I stayed in the field longer. And wouldnt have sat out in strong winds and snow on the open tractor. Cabs on the 966 arent like the ones on new tractors but, better than nothing.

All 966's were Farmalls up to late '75 when the Farmall moniker was dropped entirely. "Wheatland" was an option package for the tractor.

IH did not make a distinct standard tread tractor from the 66 series onward. Not that there was much difference between a row crop and a standard tread by that time.
