good source for a radiator for 4640?

Hey all,

I have a leaking radiator on my 4640. Does anyone have a good source for a good radiator? I am willing to pay for good quality and USA made. I wanna do this once. A mechanic friend is an A&I dealer, and he said they're sold out. He said the last radiator he installed from Deere was no better than A&I (possibly the same) and cost $300 more.

Thanks for any info.

I put a new radiator in my 2520 this spring. Local JD dealer said JD no longer offered one. A&I one was about $500, if I remember
correctly. A&I radiator seemed like good quality. Made in Czechoslovakia. Or was it the Czech republic? My memory for details isn't
what it used to be! After making the mistake of buying the cheapest radiator I could find on line once, I will only buy such things
from a local dealer where I can make returns.

If there is a local heavy equipment radiator shop around, might check with them about recoring it.

They may not be interested at first, but if you are persistent and let them know you are serious and not going to run away in shock over the price, they may be willing to take the job.

I got one for my White 2-135, similar size to your Deere, from Holm's American Radiator. You'll have to search them, it's been a
couple of years. I just checked my accounting program. It cost me $1101, but that included next day shipping by motor freight.

If the tanks are good I would suggest
getting it recored. Your radiator shop
can still get cores made here in the US.
It is expensive.

Aftermarket is not the same. I ordered
an aftermarket from my radiator shop for
my Ford 851d recently because the sides
of mine were bad. It works but when I
refilled the system it took 1 gallon
less than I took out. That's a lot of
lost capacity.

A few Mennonite sources. NO Sunday hours and most do not run Saturday. Green Spring Tractor. Newville, PA. Wenger's. Myerstown, PA. Nelson Tractor Parts.
Penn Yan, NY.

Be prepared for big price.
I had a leaking rad on our TCM last week.
I took it in ( when I finally found a shop not too far away)

After they cleaned an pressure tested it they wanted to build a
complete new one for me $1400. Or absolutely no guarantee
they would fix the two leaks for $350. By the time taxes were
included it was almost $400.

I know things cost more but this all seems excessive and I
needed it back running. I hope they fixed them properly and
not just with the paint.

If you do choose to go with new look at the shipping weight and compare it with the shipping weight of radiators from other sources. I always assume a heavier radiator is made of heavier and stronger material.

Have it re-cored. The new ones are usually junk, lightweight and thoroughly un-useable. And, they don't fit correctly, wrong dimensions and poor repros.

Last two radiators I had to replace I got from Shoup. Was cheaper than the local rebuild shop (and faster to get). If I remember right they came from a place in Minnesota. Think the company was Northern Radiator or Northern mfg.
