I have a JD #8 sickle mower for sale. I have mounting brackets for a 2 cylinder tractor, model 70 and the guy looking at it has a JD 3020. Will the brackets that I have work on his 3020??

With a little modification yes

My guess is he'll need to drill some different holes and maybe cut them shorter? Not sure, but there isn't that much he can modify.

Mounting brackets for 2 cyl tractor will not easily fit a 3020. If I were intending to mount #8 mower on 3020 I'd make a tube that fit mower mounting clamps that had a Cat ll pin on each end. One would need to lengthen the driveshaft.

Shown below is JD engineers sickle mower mounting brackets for a New Generation tractor such as a 3020

Agree.

That's what I did to my no. 5 and made a drive shaft extension. If you go this route you will need to work out a way to block the three point control so you don't lift it by mistake or you will mangle your mower drive.
