Wrapping the bill hook

I have a new to me New Holland 269 small square baler. I am getting it ready for this year and noticed that when running some arm fills of a round bale I pulled apart through the baler the twine wraps around the bill hook. Its just one bill hook, I have watched it deliver the twin properly and the disc rotate in time.

The question I have is there a way for me to tie off the twine to see the integrity of my knot? Do I use bungee cords and pull on the strings through the chamber?

Empty the bale chamber, use a bungee pull the twine tight, (I've
hooked the bungee to a wrecking bar and hooked it behind cross
braces on my 273) manually cycle and watch. Probably need to
adjust the wiper arm. That being said, when I had similar issues
using sisal switched to plastic and no more hangup.

The curved part of the stripper arm needs to rub across the bottom of the bill hook. Flip the knotter upside down and you can observe the action. Use a pipe wrench to
bend the arm so that it rubs with some resistance. That's what pulls the twines off the bill and tightens the knot. Check the sharpness of the blade while you're in
there. If it's only one doing it compare it to the one that works. Should be obvious.

Agree that it's likely the wiper arm but could be the point on the "tooth" on the billhook is too sharp from wear thus hanging up the twine. A few swipes with a file may fix it. I have a 269 as well that has been "promoted" to a backup baler. Good machine.

You don't necessarily have to empty the chamber, just get it loose so that you can easily turn it over by hand. Remove the tension and then pry the hay out to the vicinity of the tension adjuster, then loosen what is left. I use a pry bar for this. Loose hay will put adequate pull on the twine to enable you to observe what is going on, yet you can turn it over by hand as you must do. Fluff then feed in the hay that you have pulled out.

Its been yearsssssssss since I worked on balers so this may be over simplified and wrong, but best I recall

If the string hangs and knots onto the billhooks, loosen their tension slightly, if it slips off and fails to tie, tighten
them

If they are rusted or corroded not bright n shiny string can hang on them. They need to be smooth n shiny

John T Nooooooo warranty this was a long time ago, take advice from those more current and experienced

The number one twine runs along the top of the bale and the needles
bring up the number two twine. As the needle nears the end of its
stroke the billhook will open and the twine finger will lay the cords in
the billhook. Make sure that the twine finger just clears the needle
and that the sweep is sufficient to achieve the above. Check the
condition of the cam on the knotter stack shaft and the roller that
follows the cam.

Update on baler thanks everyone for the help after getting twine unwrapped from hook and ran again I found what happened was the tension on the twine coming out of box slipped off on one side and allowed that side to get slack and when the needle came up thats what wrapped. Then found that the hook on the bill was not allowing the twine to leave and breaking bales. Adjusted the tension of the bill hook just a fuzz and will see tomorrow. Again cannot express my grateful for everyones help on here

check the wiper arm part of the knife arm assy. for proper contact with the bill hook, one thing that will help if the wiper arm is flat where it
contacts the bill hook take a round file make a little arch where it contacts the bill hook then readjust it to wipe the bill hook with a light
contact pressure that will give more contact area with the twine pushing it off the bill hook. Had a 273 that one side was constantly giving trouble
wrapping up with twine ,finally I noticed that side had a new knife arm assy. and the wiper part of it was flat compared to the older one on the other
side which was arched, after a little filling it worked like it was supposed to.

anyone here have a picture of where the springs hook to for the ticker fingers? I have 2 springs but neither where hooked up and I think where I have them is causing a conflict. Thanks in advanced

Round3, you need to start a new thread for this question. The viewers who are on modern view will see it because like all other forums a new post will bump it up, but those on classic view, who see modern as witchcraft, won't see it because it has gone to page 5.
