On the subject of trains...

I came across a program on RFDTV this weekend, called Trains and Locomotives.

They feature steam engines still in use in various places. Sundays show was about the Grand Canyon Special.

Some really good audio of the engines pulling grade! Gave the surround sound a rare chance to rattle the windows!

Wife came running in That's LOUD! What are you doing!!! LOL

One thing I noticed, was the clean stack...no black that I saw. Good fireman!!
Next best thing to hear is 2 or 3 or 4(or more) 40-2 diesels with the throttle in 8 notch pulling
a big grade with a heavy train. Just-a-screamin', an' hollerin' an' bellerin' and belching
black smoke and the ground just shuddering as they go by!!!
Been there and done that a couple times!!!
Your body can just feel the power as they go by!!!!
What a feeling!!!!

Nice video. Notice it had a diesel pusher engine at the back for a backup.

Another nice video. Trying to figure out the age of vehicles driving by at the end. Maybe late 40's or early 50's.

I was downwind of the 4014 as it went through Brady 2 years ago. Couldn't smell the smoke from the fire. Just smelled like steam does when quenching hot iron.
