Indy 500 & Charlotte 600. I remember cleaning calf pens while listening to the Indy 500 on the radio we had in the barn. Bill Vukovich, Offenhauser engines, Model A rear ends. Seems like yesterday. Yesterday's tractor pulling the manure spreader was a 1936 WC Allis Chalmers on rubber. Spreader was a 4 wheel John Deere that had both a horse tongue and a short one for the tractor.

Back in the day-----They said GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES --Different words will need to be used today. The excitement builds.

I remember when it lasted till late in the afternoon. Then watch it the following Saturday on Wide World of Sports.

Goose, isn't the same? Inferior women in a race car?? Sheesh. I won't let my wife know how some folks feel.....

Too bad all that participation prize stuff came too late for you HB, otherwise you would've had some trophies or ribbons on your shelves to show the grandkids ..... (joke)

Didn't mean to put down female drivers, but when I was racing late model stocks it was always the emotional high of the race when they played the National Anthem followed by Gentlemen, start your engines and several dozen racing engines fired up at once.

If you haven't BTDT you can't understand it.

After I moved into outlaw sprints, they couldn't do the Gentlemen, start your engine bit 'cause sprints have to be push started.
