wife---rotator cuff

Well we had surgery yesterday. Repaired but very uncomfortable today. She slept well last night and is asleep again this morning after a piece of dry toast and a dollop of coffee. Came home with a sling that was so complicated I had to take a picture of it to get it off and on. The dog will not leave her side except for the necessary break outside occasionally. We go back for a follow-up Thursday morning. I am sticking close to home as the primary care giver. I have never been in that role before. Dr. seems to think over exertion from swiping credit cards could have contributed to the injury. Ellis

That was the worst surgery I ever had.
The Doc did not know if I would ever use my arm again.
I let it go way too long before having it fixed.

I had it done after falling off a ladder while working on my round baler. Tore tendons loose, the doctor repaired it, did the rotator cuff repair while he was in there, recovery was painful could'nt move arm for 6 weeks, then 6 more weeks of therapy, glad i had it fixed as it feels great now. Had it done 10 years ago and still doing good!!

I've had both of mine repaired. Better than new almost. Visited therapist one time and did all my own stretches at home.

Now that the chipped cards are everywhere should alleviate some of those injuries. I let my cuff injuries go then suddenly could not raise my arm more than about 30 degrees to the side. Ended up with a reverse replacement. Still gives me a lot of trouble but at least I can use it now. Good thing she had it fixed in time.

I read this to my wife. Her opinion was that your wife would've gotten carpel tunnel if she had to write checks.

Had mine done 2 years ago monday. Very uncomfortable recovery but cant be helped. Ice is her best friend. I was given a cooler with a pump that circulated ice water through a pad I placed on my shoulder-it was a Godsend! I slept in my recliner for at least 3 weeks and yes the sling was a network of velcro and straps. I had a great physical therapist and that made a difference. You must follow through with the stretches and exercises or you wont regain full movement.

Wish her well from me. I've had three of those miserable surgery's, the last one was a year ago April. Hoping to never have another one as long as I live.

Keep supporting her and she will be OK in the end.
Everybody reacts to shoulder surgery in different ways. My shoulder surgery was very painful for the first couple of days, had to sleep sitting up even and therapy was not fun at all. But I recovered and that shoulder is fine. When I went to therapy I talked to a lady in the waiting room who had her arm in a sling too. She had shoulder surgery and told me it was worse than giving birth. Marilyn had the same surgery on both sides but at different times and she came out of it like a champ. The doctor called her some kind of a miracle.

GRIN on the cause of the problem.

Glad your wife is doing fairly OK - prayers and wishes for good healing and good final results.

Oldest sis had hers done 10-12 years ago. It was a lengthy recovery.

I'm at 12 weeks after surgery and prospects are not looking to suit me. Hard fall on shoulder almost 12 months ago. Suffered with it 3 months not knowing what was wrong. Went to Dr who did exrays and mri and said partial tear in rc. Suggested cordazone shots,no mention of surgery, therapy or taking it easy or resting shoulder. I asked if that is a cure and he said no,just temporarly relieve's pain. Put up with it another 6 months then went to different Dr who said I should have done therapy 6 months earlier and I had finished wrecking my shoulder by continueing to lift, push and pull. Suggested surgery which I had done. They handed me a rope with pulley and said come back in 2 weeks. At 2 week follow up he told me I needed to pull arm as high as possible with pulley. I told him it already felt like something was tearing and he assured me I couldn't injure myself on the pulley. Went home that afternoon, gritted teeth and pulled hard on rope. Pulley strap had been wedged for 2 weeks in top of closet door per instruction sheet in bag with pulley. When I put arm under extra tension the *%!$#@ strap sliped and it hurt like never before. Next morning I picked up a pulley at Lowe's with a heavy duty support bracket and found I wasn't able to pull arm as high as I could 24 hours earlier. It has been 10 weeks since that happened, not much improvement, pain worse than first 2 weeks and Dr want's to perform another procedure with projected recovery taking 12 more months. I'd like to hold a couple of doctor's heads under water over their lackadaisical ways. Haven't decided what I should do but haven't ruled out making the last dr and pulley mfgr pay for everything going foward with a different orthapedic team. I may get my granddaughter to post pictures of pulleys from dr's office and from the home improvment store. I think you would agree with my opinion of their reliability when so much is at stake.
My best wishes to you and your wife Ellis.

Ellis, they have to remember it's a limit and not a goal with those cards! Get well quick, Mrs. Ellis!
