Ordering stuff off the web.

I find if I am not in a hurry. I order stuff from Amazon, or McMaster Carr. Usually Mc Master carr one or two days. Amazon 3-4 days. I always order bearings, and belts off ebay. Saves me fighting traffic (California) I just ordered two more 16 inch truck tires from amazon, in 2 days the tires were at my house. Anyone else order parts off the net? Stan

Amazon delivery is all over the board. I needed a head gasket for my Yamaha and it took over a week. Needed a carb for a Briggs and Stratton on a corn drag, ordered it last Sunday and it was here Wednesday. My son has an engine machine shop, says he orders from McMaster Carr and it's like the warehouse is a mile away, stuff is here by 10 am next day.

I just ordered more stuff from this site today. 4 orders in about 3 weeks from YT. I do order lots of stuff off the internet but mostly because I can't get it local.

All the time. Ebay has become a very important source for me. Lots of old stock items on there that would be very hard to locate if not for that venue. Saves trudging through swap meets and endless phone calls. McMaster Carr has always been a good vendor, not good for cheapo price shoppers but when you need the goods they have them and I am one day ship most of the time.

All the time, our local parts and supply houses are worthless, If the world ran like McMaster-Carr and Chick-fil-A, wed do alright!

Sometimes good, sometimes not so good results. I'm currently still waiting on three items I bought and paid for on ebay on March 29. Somehow Canada Post screwed it up so bad that the order is still on the way after being misdirected by them. Very poor performance from them on this one. I've good luck buying stuff off Rock Auto and Amazon in the past.

Yes if I can find it on the internet I will skip the local parts store because the counter help is so poor. Dealing with them I can feel myself getting dumber just standing there The local Ace hardware store is the opposite. The workers are very knowledgeable

I order lots of stuff off internet. I have ordered quite a few parts from this site and have always been satisfied. Also from Amazon. I have gotten stuff from ebay and one time when I got power steering parts I got them from another supplier but from ebay I didn't have to pay postage. Have also ordered from other suppliers when parts weren't available from this site. I have had good luck so far. I have a JD dealer here and they are pretty good if parts still available. Amazon is pretty reliable and usually quick delivery.

I order seeds from several places, ebay mostly for parts,Murray McMurray for baby chicks.Walmart or Sams for Delvac oil free delivery and sometimes cheaper than the store.

I tend to get from the local parts guys. They are very good and one of them is the owner. I tend to get things that can't be screwed up like tires or electrical connection components. No direct size to deal with. stuff like parts with detailed sizes or serial number break things I don't order online to many complications to return if it's not right.

I get most OEM local I spec I order 3K a mo. off the net. Amazon delivers to me most of the time its fast... I try to stay with prime if make a order its not prime I better not be in a hurry for it... I get quite a bit of amazon prime the next day : ) either their delivery truck are UPS... Thank god they got away from USPS in my area...

I have bought twice from here but very little on line and amazon I don't think it will ever be. Just do not like them the way they have grown and taking over the country

I probably buy as much from Amazon as from stores.

Everything from OTC meds to shop supplies.

I know you're supposed to patronize your local stores, but the bottom line is, there really aren't that many that are locally owned anymore. And when I can order something with a couple of clicks on the computer instead of running around town for an hour or two, and still have it in a day or two, it's tempting.

We had a lot of work done on our IH 544 (utility) and ordered most of the items like brake pads, front end parts, new steering wheel and some other miscellaneous parts on line (this site included). Engine parts I think were locally. We also have an excellent local NAPA that I know other parts came from. I do a mix it seems. Even had to return some of the parts ordered on line and had no issues.

I prefer to shop local but end up buying most parts and basic supplies, filters, etc, on-line; a fair amount of it through e-bay and amazon. I find the shipping depends entirely on the carrier with ups and fedex being foolproof and reliable. USPS shipping depends entirely upon which distribution center the parcel happens to be routed through, with one in Maryland for certain being like a black hole. I have had three different orders from different suppliers disappear there over the last six months, and four that stalled there for six-eight weeks, finally arriving well after we had already been through the refund process and reordered.

I've ordered hundreds of items from Ebay. I've ordered 2 items from Amazon, simply because I couldn't find them at a decent price anywhere else. I have zero interest in supporting Amazon- the Walmart of the internet!

I buy off eBay and Amazon.
I have amazon prime. I ordered a bubble machine for granddaughter. Got it yesterday, Sunday.
2 days after I ordered it.
Sometimes ebay is cheaper. Sometimes ebay is the only place I can buy adapters from china and it takes weeks to get. However most items buyer pays for return shipping.
99% of the time Amazon pays return shipping. Now I don't have to print a UPS return label. Amazon emails me a square coded thingie, I just have to show UPS the white square coded thingie on smartphone and it's that simple. UPS isn't out of the way to get to.
I compare prices on ebay and amazon and I compare shipping time. Amazon gets most of my business.

EVERY DEERE dealer I've ever dealt with for over 50 years has been irritating. Had one IH dealer that pizzed me off more than once, He didn't stay in business long. But the old IH dealer downtown really bent over to take care of people.

I wonder when drone deliveries will be able to fly repair parts directly to construction sites and farm fields. Order a belt or bearing online while you are disassembling the machine and have the new parts delivered right to the down combine without having to leave the field. That could be a real time saver, provided a paranoid neighbor does not shoot the drone down.

I needed a part for my 4 wheeler. Dealer wanted over $50.00 . My daughter ordered it on the web for $18.00. It will be delivered to my door whereas the dealer is 25 miles away.

More and more.

I try to write down what I need or am going to need then on a slow or rainy day sit down at the computer and look for what I need.

Nothing against shopping local and still do when I need something right now, but for me local is an hour to town and an hour back.

What I find annoying is when I need a part, I will use a 1-ton front hub + bearing for example.

-Call the dealership it is $700 and 3 days to get it.

-Call the parts stores they are $500 and it is 2-3 days away.

-Find the identical SKF bearing online $262 including shipping and I can pick it up at the post office 1 mile away in 2-3 days.

If a retailor is;

-Not convenient

-Not knowledgeable

-Has nothing in stock

-Is not competitive

Then why should I be paying a ridiculous mark up on a part that they are probably ordering from the same place I am.

The big city is 2 hours away, I can order a part from a dealership and usually have it in my mailbox in 2 days, sometimes next day.

Even if shipping is $50 that is still cheaper than the fuel I would burn and I don't loose a day making the trip.

I only buy from McMaster Carr as a last resort.
Even if the item can be mailed in a first class envelope, they charge $10 minimum to ship.
And their prices are no bargains either.

Amazon never takes more than two days to get things to me and we order most of our groceries (except perishables) and virtually everything else we need from them. I get all tools and woodworking supplies (except 4x8 sheets) from them.

They are building a million square foot warehouse in north Wichita and when that is in we will likely even order perishable from them since they tend to offer same day delivery in the areas where they have enough warehouse space.

I hope to never enter a hardware store or grocery store again.

st Sept I needed a starter for the wife's car. $150 from local NAPA, $100 from Amazon. Here in 2 days ,gone bad again in 6 months. Amazon sent a new 1. That went bad in 3 months. Now bought the NAPA one but now I don't have a core. Sent the bad one back to Amazon, but only got $90 back because??? Ended up paying a $75 core to NAPA. Got the bad end all around.
Not all Amazon is good.

I went ahead and ordered a Husqvarna splitting maul from a local outfit that sells power equipment, trucks parts, and is a Husky dealer. Local business, privately owned.

The man who took my order and payment said it should be in by the end of last week. Ok, sounds good. I called this morning to check the status. After shuffling through some computer screens he tells me it is on "back-order" and will be in by the end of June. More than a month away.

I am really questioning my decision to buy from this company. With Amazon, it would have been here by now and it would have cost less. I'll adjust my buying habits moving forward.

I agree with the comment above about them being on a par with wally world but when I do order from Amazon it is only a brand named product and I read the description thoroughly to ensure it isn't a 2nd or some such. I either use yt or other tractor parts suppliers for most stuff but I find ebay a treasure trove of hard to find and/or used stuff and mundane auto parts like filters, brake pads, bearings, etc. I find that auto wheel bearing assemblies and brake parts from ebay seller Detroit Axle far superior to NAPA, CarQuest and the like. Again, one must read descriptions, feedback and product reviews very carefully.

What I use Amazon for is figuring out part#. Then I search for a less expensive alternative which is almost always Ebay.

Ordered a reman rearend for my Chevy truck on the 'net and had it sent to the shop where they installed it (along with all new brake parts and shocks). No issues with the process. In fact they checked with me that it was legit and not a scam because it was sent to a different address from mine. Assured them it was all OK. Got it delivered in less than a week. They picked up the core within 3 days.
