Dating case 930 CK

Hello I'm new to the forum and tractors in general. I inherited my father's case 930 comfort king that his uncle purchased new in the mid to late 1960's
My dad did a lot of work to the tractor and I'm just trying to preserve it and keep it running good. I will mainly use it for bush hogging 10 acres. It has the 8 speed transmission and serial number 8333815.
My questions are what hydraulic fluid do I use? It has a leaking hose by the 3 point hitch that I will be replacing and wanted to make sure I top off the oil that is lost.
Also when driving the tractor can I start off with the range selector in High and 1st gear or should I bush hog in Low range 3rd gear ? Thanks for any feedback

Not at familiar with Case tractors. But,if I were you,I march right down to the case dealer and (at minimum) order an Owners manual. Then a service manual. It
could be a 'factory' manual,or an I&T manual. That OM will give oil types, capicitys, lube schedules, plus a bunch of stuff you didn't know you needed to know. That
book will be the most important thing you will ever buy for your tractor. You bush hog at a safe speed,a speed the tractor is able to pull the hog. Be it first
gear,or high gear.However,2nd or third would probably be about right. You might want to sort through your father's things. The original owners manual may be
there.

Thank you. I will ask the dealer for a manual tomorrow when I go to pick up the new dust bowl pre-filter.

The.930 will take TCH hydraulic/transmission fluid. There are aftermarket brands that say they are the equivalent at farm stores. After your knees begin
to weaken at the price of owners and service manuals at the Case dealer check eBay for some. I bought dirty originals for less than $50. You may have
to find a Case construction dealer as my local farm equipment dealer doesn't have parts for the old tractors anymore. This site and a few of the posters
on here carry parts for the 930. Either gear will work, depends on what your mowing and how fine/clean you want it. The Case forum will provide
specific details on problems you may have with parts, (pay attention to thread types on each end of your hose) and problems with repair.

According to serial # chart on LH side of this forums home page your tractor is a 1968 model.

Does your tractor look like this one ?

I use CaseIH Hy Tran in my 930 and 1030 tractors.
If you dont know the history on your tractor, and
when hydraulic oil may have last been changed, it
would be a good idea to drain out the old oil, and
start fresh with new oil. And the reason I say this is
your tractor is probably close to 55 years old, and
condensation can build up in the rear end of these
tractors over many years, and the oil could appear
kinda milky. If it does, this indicates that there is
water in the oil. Now I dont know if you live where it
gets cold, but if you do, and there is water in your
hydraulic oil , come winter it will become ice, and
your hydraulic system will not work. As well the oil
cannot lubricant the gears in the transmission if
there is a big block of ice in there. One last thing, it
is better to over fill the tractors hydraulic reservoir,
that to run it low. Operating these tractors while low
on hydraulic oil, can cause transmission gears to
seize on the shafts, and the tractor could become
locked in gear.
As for gear selection while cutting, let common
sense be your guide. Start off in a lower gear, and if
it is cutting well and not straining the tractor, step up
a gear. If this is the first time over this piece of
ground, going slower may be for the best, as you
wont know if there are holes to drop a wheel into,
or stumps or rocks that sort of thing

Mine looks just like that! Except it has an optional cab on it. From the serial number dating chart posted above it looks like I have a 1968. I will get some hy Tran oil today and make sure it's topped up. Thank you for the information!

You can also use 4 low as that would be between 3 and 5.
Universal tractor hydraulic oil will work fine in your 930.
