Farmall H head gasket replacement

Decided to change my head gasket in my Farmall H when I found gray oil at oil change time. Think is going pretty smoothly, but I currently have two questions.

1.) The tube the runs from the top of the governor under the thermostat housing and into the head broke. I believe this line is used for venting. Is there any reason I can't fix that by removing the broken section and replacing with a rubber hose? Or do I need to source a replacement part?

2.) Once the tractor is running again and I go to re-torque the head bolts, do I have to remove the valve train to torque the two bolts hiding underneath it? I'm hoping someone has a trick to torque those two without removing the valve train.
 
That tube is an oil return tube. I'd suggest you replace it with steel.

I'd be awful leery of not torqueing all of the head bolts exactly the same. Resign yourself to removing the valve cover again.

Others might have different ideas.
 
A special wrench is what you can use, , BUT, not necessary. Just a simple comparison to the already torqued nuts with a box end wrench as to how much pull on wrench. Not critical.
 
If you use a piece of fuel rated hose and good clamps the tube can be reliably repaired. The torquing IIRC can be done with a box end adapter. as linked (of the correct size of course) some math is involved to calculate the added length of the torque arm. but the valves should be reset after the retorque anyway so it really is a matter of a few minutes pulling the shaft off leaving the pushrods where they are. After Replacing head gasket on Farmall C I re torqued the bolts 5 times. Each time I have to remove the valve trail to get to some of the head bolts. So I had to reset valves each time.
