92 Plymouth Colt Vista air conditioner

I replaced the belt to the compressor but nothing happens when I turn on the air conditioner. I checked the pressure and it has 100 pounds. There is a sensor on the high pressure side that has 4 wires going to it. There is 12V on one wire when I turn the air conditioner on. Does anyone know what the problem is?

The engine control module has control of compressor . I would put battery voltage on yellow wire at compressor. If its cools report back.

Not sure what you are saying? Does clutch on compressor engauge to start with? Or is compressor running and not cooling?

I saw a colt about the same year. They had replace the battery. AC would not work. I bypassed everything like David from Mo said and directly powered the clutch. It worked. They had left the h/l pressure sensor under the battery unplugged.

Thanks, the pressure sensor is plugged in
and has one hot wire when the switch is
turned on. I suspect the sensor but I don't
know what each wire does. I wish I had a
wiring diagram. The switch has a economy
mode. Could it be that the pressure sensor
turns the compressor off when the pressure
gets high? And maybe the sensor won't turn
the compressor on unless there is enough
pressure?

There are two tests you can do. With the engine off and cool turn the center part of the clutch pulley by hand to make sure the compressor is not frozen.

Unplug the sensor and locate the wire on the compressor clutch housing that powers the electromagnet on the clutch. Using a jumper directly power the clutch and listen to see if the clutch is making any clicking sound. You do not need the engine running to test this. You might want to loosen the fan belt so that the entire clutch pulley can be rotated by hand.

It is possible to run the compressor for a short time with the engine running just to trouble shoot it. Some sensors only lock out the compressor if the pressure is too low. Other sensors are both high and low limiting and will also lock out the compressor if the pressure is too high.

Thanks for that information! I had a
suspicion that was how that sensor might
work. It rained today so I couldn't work on
it. I'll try your suggestion.
