Ratchet Straps

Are MyTee brand straps good ones or do they stretch and ravel? Looking at 4 x 30' straps with flat hooks.

I have 2 x ? From Harber Freight. Work well but much to long. Also don't have flat hooks. Had to grind them a lot to go thru stake pockets. But they are cheap! I just use them for 4 chains. Tie tractors down with 2 chains then 2 straps for my 4 the downs. I have thought about cutting 15' off.

IME looking at a zillion straps of all kinds, the "ravel" you refer to comes from people not being careful and nicking or outright cutting into their straps. While they ARE to be considered a consumable, taking a bit of extra care helps save $$$.

If you're familiar with straps of that size you probably know what a quality one feels like. Go with your gut. If they feel like quality straps, they probably are.

Frankly I believe a lot of them are made in the same overseas factory and they just pick a color and spray paint their name on the webbing.

I agree though, fraying is a result of improper use not quality. Rubbing on a corner is certain death for ratchet straps.

Vic ..... yes, not going through the stake pockets is very annoying. There's a simple way of dealing with the length, I'm sure you know that already ..... ha!

Lately I see some cheaper quality ones but still rated at 3300
and 10,000 breaking strength but they are about half as thick

Even high quality straps are subject to wear and tear. The
most often defect is a cut from a shifting load. Straps with cuts
across the face or on the edge should be retired. Improper
hooking can cause a hook to break The straps should be
inside the rub rail so if theres a side swipe the straps wont be
rubbed off. There is a point where the straps are tight enough
Over tightening 2 straps will wear out the buckles We used
to clean/ lube the buckles with cheap penetrating oil

I ll only buy straps that have a DOT rating, they do not cost much more, and I hope they are a little better quality. If you can find them, buy the straps with chain for hooks instead of flat hooks. Mine have about 24 inches of 5/16 grade 70 chain on the ends. and are rated for 3330#(2 inch)
