Weekend work

Finally got some planting done this year. Been hovering right around being ready for most of a month, but always just enough rain or snow to hold it off. Got enough snow early Saturday to turn the ground white and had flurries again last evening. But between I got my oats in. Used my heavy disc on last years corn stalks behind the 1030 to start. That is Randell, my grandson driving again this year.

That disc is heavy, and with 24 blades and 16' wide the 1030 knows it's back there. Especially on this ground that I just rented with some steep hills. Then went over it with the light 14' disc. The 1030 hardly knows that's back there.

Planted with the 400 this year. It really runs nice now since the rebuild.

I had to put a new needle and seat in the carb on my dc and when I tried to hook up the gas line after I had a leak, when I tried to take the elbow out the casting just broke off the carb. I tried an old carb I found at a salvage yard, but it was broken inside. So I decided to just build it up with braze and drill and tap it. Seems to be working good.

Turned the cattle out for the summer too. They sure had fun with that. The little black Holstein by the water tank who has always been trouble to keep in when full bore right through the new fence. Sent him tumbling across the pasture. He got a few minor cuts but no major damage. He did learn to respect the fence tho and goes nowhere near it now. Lol.

I just got the two larger Holstein heifers a few weeks back, they came from a farm that wasn't feeding them and looked terrible, especially the one on the right. I didn't know if she would make it. Took a week for them to start eating good, but they seem to be doing ok now.

Loaded four Mor hogs for the butcher yesterday afternoon too. That leaves just one hog left from that batch. I did well on them and the steers I sold last month.

Supposed to rain for a couple days now then get nice. Hopefully I can plant some corn next weekend.

Glad you are giving those heifers a good home. They deserve proper care, and will receive that on your farm. Thanks for the weekend pictures, always enjoy them.

Its fun watching kids operate equipment . Its even more fun when youre sitting on the fender of the same tractor pulling the same implement you learned to run
