GOT TWINE???

Well after a phone call on friday to the dealer I buy my twine from and being told you get the last pallet we have till next year, I started checking. It seems that twine maybe the new shortage, much like Toilet Paper was a year ago. Then this morning on US Farm Report they confirmed that twine and bale wrap are in short supply and prices are thru the roof... SO I may suggest that you start looking for the twine you need and get it tied up ASAP.

I'd heard awhile back sisal twine might be in short supply of course you hear that about about everything these days.Anyway back in early March I bought enough enough to do me this year at least, coop regular price was $43 for a two ball bale of 16,000 gave me a discount down to $39.

I got a couple bales of 9000 sisal from TSC Thursday, with 10% discount coupon. Believe it was old stock they had to burrow pretty good to find it in the back room. have enough for the summer with what I have in stock left from last season. Probably not sending it out from the warehouse yet.

Sometimes I think dealers just say this stuff to sell more product. I sure can't see the future, but I know sisal twine is currently cheaper than I've seen it for several years.

Was at an auction yesterday. A guy bot 6 or 8 big bales of orange nylon for 10 bux each. Don't know what regular price is.

I wish somebody would make a cheap machine that you could feed the used stuff in to to braid it back together and put it back in a ball. Everything off bales I store inside could be reused at least once.

That was on US Farm Report yesterday that there is also a shortage of bale wrap and plastic wrap. Also said about anything plastic including tile.

That was the first thing they said that a shortage exist. Got me thinking as I just ordered any chemicals I would need this year as that will probably be the next thing.

I remember back in the late 60s or real early 70s there was a sisal twine shortage supposedly because of a fire in Mexico. Before that, twine was around $8 a bale. Shot up over $20 that year and never came down. Dad and I went to Archbold that spring and there were stacks of 5 bales piled randomly in rows all over the sale grounds. We bought all of ours there that day. Seems like we gave about 20 for it.

As far as chemicals, they said on Ag Day this morning that glyphosate was the big one that was short. If we don't get flooded out right after I plant, I guess I'll hit everything with atrazine and generic Prowl pre emerge and hope for no escapes. I think I have a little bit here for some spot spray clean ups, but not enough to spray everything.

We always give calves an e coli nnalert as soon as they're born. We couldn't get that this year. Tried a couple of big suppliers, both said they'd be out for months. It's been dry enough so far that there hasn't been any mud on the cows udders and it hasn't been a problem, but that could change overnight.

I'd been hearing about the possible twine shortage so I picked uo 25 bundles of 16000 for myself last month
That will take care of my hay needs but won't leave much left over should there be a extra cutting to sell.

They ran that USFR story on Ag Day this morning. Didn't say anything about sisal. They just said it was a worldwide polyethylene shortage. Of course it might send some plastic twine users to using sisal, but with the drought in the west, there might not be much hay to bale anyway.

My daily job depends on polyethylene, and the shortage is hard to understand. But it's not going away any time soon either. I would more expect plastic twine to sky rocket in price before sisal. It seems some Asian companies and maybe a few European are buying up all stocks of PE, and I'm not sure anyone knows why. But prices the last couple months have gone crazy, and are going up nearly every single day.
