QS 10W-40 oil

For years I have bought Quaker State 10W-30 oil in the 5qt bottle. I use it in all my tractors. The Farmalls hold 5qt's so it works out perfectly.
I was at Meijer and Menard's and they no longer have it. Not even a spot on the shelf for it! When did this happen? All I find is 5W-40 and 0W-40.
What do I do now? Anyone else notice this?

Dave,
I use valvoline 80 90w gear lub with limited slip additive. Couldn't find any. Full synthetic dosen't work.
Then I discovered valvoline now makes 75 90w limited slip gear lub.

The first number is for cold weather.
I use cheap 10w40 oil for RK in my old tractors, lawn mowers.
Don't think 5w40 oil will hurt.
Rk sells 10w30.

Most GM vehicles I've owned recommends 5w30. My 2018 now wants 5w30 full synthetic that lasts 6000 miles. Old GM vehicles oil lasted 3000 miles.

The lighter weight is now the norm for newer vehicles. Since there aren't many 'old' vehicles anymore, stands to reason that stores aren't carrying oils for the older vehicles. They sell what is popular,in demand.'Corporate' dictates what they sell. go a head and switch brands, wont hurt a thing. You may also have to find a different store too.15/40 fleet diesel is a good oil for all old tractors. That's what I use in EVERYTHING.Brand is not important. I myself have used Tractor Supply 'Traveler' oils for 20 years

Look at switching to diesel oil.

I think there is a 10w-40, if not 15w-40 will work.

The modern gas engine automotive oil is formulated for roller cams and to be compatible with emission systems.

Diesel oil is much better suited for the old flat tappet engines.

The brand is really not an issue as long as the oil has been kept changed regularly.

As I've posted before,if you don't want major repairs on your engine drivetrain use DIESEL OIL in all your flat tappet tractors, which is anything built before 1985 for sure. The EPA made oil manufactures reduce the zinc content to below levels needed for our older tractors and vehicles,THEY CLAIM IT DAMAGED CAT.CONVERTERS,diesel still has acceptable limits but I add a little zinc additive in each tractor to make certain I don't get a camshaft and lifter failure like I did in my small block Chevy along with thousands of other old car buffs that had the same result. Edelbrock said it's been a nightmare for all the after market suppliers when I called them a couple years ago about my problem and I don't have anything high performance in my vehicle.

Unfortunately you cant get at local store. Auto zone use to carry Quaker state oil ,The high mileage red container of 10w30 I bought had label higher zinc on it.

DaveBN, I have always used Quaker State 10 W 30 Oil since they stopped selling straight 30W. I bought the conventional 10W30 at Wall Mart. In my area at two different wall Marts they only sell 5 quart jugs in Synthetic oil. I don't want to use it in my older tractors. I did find some in 5 quart jugs at Home Depot. I thought that it was a strange place to buy motor oil but that's where I found it. Good Luck and maybe someone can tell me why synthetic oil stays clean for twice as long as conventional oil. Maybe I'm a skeptic.

I wouldn't bet on it but when people think that any oil with 'diesel' printed on the label, automatically they think the oil has the zinc additives (or higher levels of zinc). I believe they are wrong. Some might have zinc, others do not.
