My MF 231 has been sitting since last fall. It started right up. It has always been a good starter. I see oil shooting out of the dip stick hole. Right away I am thinking water in the oil. Drained the oil. No water, but real thin oil. All I can think is somehow diesel fuel leaked in through the piston. How does that happen. Any thoughts? Stan

did you pull the dipstick before startup? not sure on MF but if you have a fuel pump on the block it can leak into the oil there. definitly cant leak in from the top of piston. the other thing is the injection pump seals , buy i dont know on that tractor.

Most likely suspect is the lift pump. My 175 had that problem. There was a pinhole in the diaphragm that wasn't a problem, most of the time. BUT, if the engine stopped at the wrong place, the fuel pump cam would stretch the diaphragm, and hold the hole open. Then it would leak several quarts of fuel, almost overnight. I discovered it when the oil pressure started dropping, and the engine started blowing smoke from the crankcase vent.

I've seen B&S carbs leak and fill the crankcase with gas.
I've installed 12v inline solenoids to prevent leaky carbs on mowers and Farmall, Jubilee.

Standard equipment on T5C terramite .
Possible a solenoid could help you.

Lift pump or injection pump. Not really familiar with that model, but if it has a transfer/lift pump start there.

While it possible for an injector to leak enough fuel to raise the crankcase level, usually that can only happen while running and you would notice the black smoke.
