Finished shelling corn

I just finished the 1100 bu corn crib. The only issue I had was this morning the cobs wanted to plug up rather than feed into the cob elevator. Did not have any problems on Saturday but did it 3 or 4 times today. The weather was cloudy and damp overnight and this morning. Might that have had something to do with it. I had no rats and only saw 3 mice when finishing. Now I have some clean up to do and put everything away. Not sure if I will do it again next year or not. My wife says fun should not be this much work and my back does agree.LOL Plan to go back to manure hauling tomorrow and maybe finish plowing on Wed. Tom

I enjoyed your pics. Ive not seen a JD sheller of that size before, it was 98% Minneapolis Moline sheller used around here.

Always enjoyed shelling, we would do it in August mostly, as it was feed for the cattle, didnt want to shell until we were fairly sure and close to a new crop. Corncrib held 4000 bu if you really stuffed it, we often did around 2500-3000 bu in it and shelled out 1000-1500 bu in a two day period. In the end my wife and I shelled a couple years, about 3000 bu, it was a lot more tiring filling the crib by myself than shelling it between my wife, me, and a friend of hers that enjoyed the work too. Could always see the end of it coming so it went well.

Now a days harvest has to go so fast, and yields have gone up, I can only pick a couple wagons of ear corn. Miss the shelling. And it made good feed.
