Mounting a Great Bend 440 loader on a JD2240

Hi guys,
I was hoping to get some advice regarding the install of a loader on my 2240 John Deere. I picked up a really nice Great Bend 440 loader but after looking at it next to my tractor Im not so sure it would be a good fit. My tractor is a row crop model so it is tall enough but Im concerned it might be too big. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Compare your loader specifications to a JD #48 specs. Deere used to mount #48s on 1020, 1520 and 2020 tractors. A #48 on a 2020 with a 60 inch bucket and 80 inch snow bucket extensions was a great combination. After the second year, we did not bother removing the snow bucket in the summer or cleaning cattle barns. Make sure you add engine side frames so the engine does not have to take all the stress from the loader.

I think GB440 FEL will be fine on JD 2240. Do you know what tractor mounting brackets were designed for? Does loader have a hyd control valve? If there is a hyd control valve it needs to have a closed-center conversion plug

Thanks for the reply Jim!
It was mounted on a JD 5300, it is going to take some fab
work to get the brackets to fit my machine. It didnt come with
a valve. I have one I salvaged off of a really old loader that
was in the junk yard. It was on a JD B, but I dont know if its
open or closed center. Im not even sure what that means but
Im learning! I was planning to upgrade to a new valve from
Surplus Center. They have all kinds of valves for sale that are
reasonably priced.

JD model B would have open center hyd's.

Open center hyd's allows oil to flow through control valves at low to no pressure while pump is pumping until the control valve is activated to divert oil to a function such as cylinder then pressure is utilized to move cylinder piston.

Closed center hyd builds pressure which is stored in hyd lines then when a designated pressure is reached which is called stand-by pressure(2250 psi) on JD hyd system the pump ceases to pump because pressure is sent to interior of pump pushing pistons away from the rotating shaft. When pressure drops then springs force pistons against the rotating shaft & pumping begins again.

CLEAR AS MUD right?

Important thing is one needs correct type control valve for either type system!

Does your 2240 have side frames on each side of engine? If not I suggest acquiring some.

Actually that does make perfect sense, thanks for taking the
time to explain it! The loader brackets that came with the
loader have what I would call side frames that wrap around
the engine and go from the front to just ahead of the foot rest.
Im thinking that should work as long as I have it attached to
the tractor in enough places to distribute the load. I may even
try to fab a brace to the rear axle.
