Sod never plows as smooth as cornstalks in the spring. Sod has lots of close roots to hold the eurrow in clumps as it turns over that cornstalks don't have and are much deeper.
 
Adrian, Thanks for the pictures. I remember plowing with a team of horses and a walking plow like the one in your picture. The only difference was you did it alone. I was small enough that if you hit a rock and the plow would tip a bit it would hit me in the ribs. Hurt pretty bad. The plow I used was the type that you could turn over and plow right back and throw the sod the same way as the last furrow. By the way I still have the plow today. Good Luck.
