Fuel tank sealer

Has any one use some of a fuel tank
sealer from on here and did you hAve good
luck. Looks like I have some pin holes in
this tractor tank an I'll need to fix it.
Would like to buy a good tank for this
37B but can't find any. Thanks guys.

I've tried it and it worked good cleaned tank with muriatic acid first.I owned the tractor for six months after using it held up well.

It helps to take a 1/4 chain and scrub the inside by rocking the tank over a saw horse using gasoline as the cleaner. Rinse with a detergent wash, then muriatic acid soak and clean with detergent wash. I filled my pin holes with solder using an electric soldering iron. Clean metal is a have to for sealers to work well.

I've never actually tried it, been scared away from the failure stories.

But not saying it won't work, like plowhand said, it worked for him.

A lot has to do with the preparation and the brand.

Another solution is to cut the bottom out of the tank and replace it. Chances are everything above the bottom is good, just the bottom rusted where the water collects.

And I have also seen the tank cut open, an aluminum fuel cell hidden inside, and the tank cosmetically closed to hide it. This works well for show and parade tractors.

Just went through replacing tank on late A with a 7 gallon air tank, top of tank gone from mouse nests. $400 for used gas tank too much for me.

I have used two different brands of sealer, both single component (nothing to add to the liquid). Google these, someone near you will sell them, just pour them in and no ultra cleaning in advance needed. Both worked well for me ...

1) Bill Hirsch Auto gas tank sealer (white milky opaque)
2) Red Kote gas tank sealer (reddish color semi-transparent)

I agree. This is an easy way to rebuild your gas tank. Of course, you can contact a specialized service, but this will cost significantly more.

I had a serious rust issue on the inside of a 1948 Formal Super AV.
Used Evaporust + 2 dozen 3/4" nuts to rattle around and clean off the loose stuff, emptied, rinsed and Redcote. 4 years later seems fine.

I've also heard the POR15 works well, but it will permanently seal any fittings/threads it touches. It might work better than Redcote if pinholes are involved.

For the outside. I tried a tank seal kit from Napa. The kit comes with a 2 part epoxy, and a piece of fiber glass cloth. When you mix the two parts move quick. It sets up fast. Stan

I used it on a Farmall H tank 10 years ago and still working. Cleaned tank with gravel first washed it and driedit and did the sealer. Great stuff

expensive but, por15 works very well... if bottom full of pin holes,,, just put duct tape over them... the por15 will set up a permanent coat and fix it. then remove duct tape. The acid wash portion will however remove any painted surfaces so if its a motorcycle tank, keep that in mind. This a considered a restoration fix as its forever.

I had good luck with Kreem gas tank sealer on a Massey Fergeson 230 about 10 years ago. It had no holes but was very rusty inside. I followed the directions to a T.

Used sealer from a company called Northern. Used it on a diesel fuel storage tank. Has been on 2 years now. No problems so far. Called Exo-Coat. Applied to outside of tank. Just brushes on. I used 2 coats. Phone number is 1-800-8900. They were very helpful. Saw it on e-bay under fuel tank sealer.
