New Tires- What's Best?

Hello,

I'm finally to the point in my restoration where I'm starting to seek out new tires.

What's everyone using for new antique tractor tires?

Seems the good old names like Goodyear and Firestone no longer make the old 45 degree tread pattern. I've found some, which are odd brands and probably made overseas. Looking for 13.6x38's.

Miller Tire specializes in old tire treads and sizes and would be a good place to look. I don't know who manufacturer their tires but I don't think any of the old sizes or treads are going to say Goodyear or Firestone. More likely to say made in Poland or China or Brazil.

what is this going on ? i did a bunch of checking around and went with 15.5x38 Titans. firestone 23 sat is good but the price is not, pretty high. i do prefer firestone but the price ruled that out. BKT would have been my second choice but i felt the centre was to clogged up on them. those samson chinese i would not touch . everyone has there own idea on tires.

Weve been diehard Firestone users for our big tractor tires but since they dropped the 151 field and roads and discontinued some sizes completely weve been exploring other options. Best looking and best valued drive tires weve found so far have been BKTs. They are still 45 degree bar. Nice wide lugs so they road wear good, and the sidewalls look good with minimal lettering unlike most cheap tires. They are made in Turkey which I would rather see my money going there over China. If you want an American name on the side BKT makes the drive tires for Carlisle which is what we started buying once we found out.

I have put BKT TR135's on our Farmall Cub and my John Deere 1010. They shed mud well, look decent and so far have held up well. I do not do much road driving. Not much for choices on some of the smaller size tires around.

When it comes to tires, car. Truck, tractor, trailer I shop around at local dealers because I need someone to install, balance and later repair them. I use a local tractor tire store. A different tire store for everything else.
I think both places I use want to maintain their reputation and sell good tires.
I've been using the Tire barn since they came to town. Recently had to replace 10 year old trailer tires. I used the OEM brand that came with trailer when it was new.
Because I was an old costumers, they sold me tires for $150 less than any other place in town. Shop local.

Get the best ,most sidewall plys and most bars. If you use in the field thats very cost effective ,with slipping is very hard on tractor .
We went with Firestone on our tractor. Fuel cost saving is there , cause the conditions of original tires and equipment is not the same but you will see the difference after a day in the field ,a lot more accomplished.
Also cheap tire dry rot very quick. Waste of money , look terrible at shows .

Miller catalog used to have dedicated page to tire sizes indicating marks showing US made or other country.

I was really surprised to get the best tire deal from the dealership!

Wife's new Toyota Highlander, with only 3500 miles, picked up a nail in the sidewall. I knew they wouldn't fix it but was hoping for a road hazard warranty, so made an appointment for her to take it by.

No warranty, but they replaced it cheaper than I could buy the tire online and have it mounted and balanced. And got a free car wash!

This is just my opinion. I think the internet has changed how local dealers price things. They know people will check out prices online before they shop locally.
A local lawn mower dealer my go to place for parts. His prices have come down to be more completive with online. I needed a pulley he didn't have. Amazon to the rescue.

Tire sales for ag stuff were February and March. So they sold a lot of tires the past 2 months.

With shipping issues, trade issues, nnalert issues, and supply chain issues, many tire sizes are getting hard to find.

You might end up buying whatever you can find.

I got some front tires for my fwa tractor, I got the last pair that was a match for my rears from the regional tire supplier, he mumbles he will order more of them but who knows when or if they come in. The warehouses on the costs are picked clean.

Not really related, my friend got a water heater leak on his 10 year old heater last night, they brought a new on this forenoon, it was the last one thry had of that size, they are on a waiting list 3 weeks out to get any more.

Things are kinda changing out there, just in time isnt working well right now.....

Daughters washer went south and had to wait 3 wks for a new one
. Ours did double duty in the meantime.
