Our local dump gives out a free one time yearly pass to dump a load of trash. They require a picture ID. Now why, do I need a picture ID just to dump a load of trash? I have my coupon the city sent me. Stan

Same reason I get carded at 65. They are just being stupid. I quit looking 21 a long time ago. So what if someone else uses the pass, They issued it to be used. I could say more but don't want to get political.

Same reason you don't need and ID to vote stupid rules. Shoot back when I was 16-18 I could buy beer and not get carded but now I get asked all the time

Is this a municipal or county dump, supported by local taxes? The ID could be required to show that you live in that proper tax district.

My local trash dump wants id's in case they catch you throwing away something you're not supposed to throw away. They have cameras hanging everywhere.

Municipal solid waste disposal is a huge part of any municipality's budget. It has to be hauled hundreds of miles to be landfilled. The authorities are tasked with trying to control the amount of money that they throw away.

We have a year pass thing. Had to sine a paper were we live an only 4 bags at a time. It use to be so busy there and now it is not. Found out that alot of people that didn't live in this town ship where just dumping there trash there because it was close. So then that tells me that my taxes were paying for there trash?.

ANYBODY can have a coupon. Only township residents can use the dump. How do you prove that? With ID. Being a contrary old phart and grousing about being asked for ID only proves that you're a contrary old phart.

Old,
Indiana may have been the first state to require Photo ID. The case made it to the Supreme court. Supreme court ruled in favor of photo ID. That's something the new media doesn't talk about.

Once a year we have dump off places through out the country to take limited trash. No paints, chemicals, TVs.

Then once a year you can take chemicals and paints to the fair ground and get rid of them.

Another place you can take TVs too, but it's not free.

Photo ID is required to dump off trash and to cast a ballet.

What the heck????? There are rules, rules every where, protocol, policy,SOP, whatever you want to call it. Some have very good reason for existence, some not so obvious.
Is it really that big a fricken deal to go with the program, show them your license, prove your residency, dump your trash and go on your merry way?
Damn sure am glad I don't have to live with the weight of your problems hangin over my head!

Freedom don't ya know.

I mean, having to show ID to vote would surely eliminate fraudulent votes wouldn't it?

I sure hope that when these new updates are fully enabled the edit function will be usable.

This must be the only site on the internet without it.

Indiana can require photo ID because Indiana will issue one for free.

Most cases of lawsuits against requiring photo Id to vote is because the required ID costs money and is not free.

Just trying to indicate how screwed up our country is. We need a photo ID to dump our trash, but not to vote. Stan

ROFLMAO!!!! Old can you get somebody to record you getting carded and put it up on you tube?

Imagine that, requiring a photo ID (which can be obtained free of charge) to dump trash or board a plane or cash a check or do almost anything (including voting in most places) what's this Country coming to ????

John T God Bless America, keep her free strong great and free of socialism

So your okay with those that get a "free pass" legitimately, giving or selling their "free pass" to anyone outside your area????

My bet is that landfill is local taxpayer funded.

It's dumper discrimination!

Obviously they are trying to keep minorities and low income types out of the dump grounds!

They do have an image to uphold after all!

Ah the nanny state . Next youll have to get an rfid chip so the Dump knows where you are while you are at the facility dont worry its only for your safety

To prove you live in that locality, simple! We pay $130 a year for solid waste disposal, and they do check for ID occasionally, to prevent people from adjoining counties from using our services, as they may have to pay per load. We can take garbage and all recyclables to the transfer station, computers, TV's and tires. And yard waste goes to a different location, all for $130 a year. I can't believe some of the comments you got about this post!

Russ,
From some of the comments, I suspect they are still filling the ravine out back with their garbage.

Russ that is not far off. Most people just have no conception of how big a deal MSW is. In the eastern part of the country you can't drive 50 miles without seeing either a landfill in operation or one that has been capped. Of course most people wouldn't recognize a capped landfill anyway. Just so long as it leaves their home that is the end of the story.

I guess some didn't get my sarcasm' I was making the difference between no ID necessary to vote in some states, but a photo ID to dump a load of trash is required. Stan
